Got my new People magazine. It had the letters to the editor about the Julia Roberts story (the one the mentioned the fact that her new boyfriend is married). Almost all of the letters to the editor that were printed were slamming her for dating a married man. One person called her America's Homewrecker. Someone pointed out (like someone did here) that loverboy was wearing his wedding ring in the photo that was captioned "this is a very committed relationship". Other Hollywood cheater news - There is also an article about Soprano's star James Gandalfini leaving his very devastated wife. He is rumored to have been having an affair with some "actress and former exotic dancer". In "People" the alleged OW says that they were just friends and she never had an affair with him. I saw a quote from him in another publication that said that he barely knew the woman and they they were just at the same party once. Hmmm, big difference between being "friends" (which usually means affair anyway) and "barely knowing" someone. Sounds like typical WS/OP stories that don't fit quite right.

I was sick when I read the Julia Roberts story. She has always been a favorite actress of mine. Between that and the GM CEO story and the basketball player story I worry about what our young people are learning.

Julia Roberts, Tom Cruise, I think you meant GE CEO, people I thought were so cool. I even knew Jack Welch.
What ever happened to common decency?

dumb question here......but didn't Tom Cruise divorce his W because of her affair(s)? Wasn't he the one at fault for 'not meeting her ENs'?
Their D makes me sad because if memory serves me right they married in 1990 same year as us.
Wonder if they ever lived in NJ?
L.

You have to consider that most actors are in an "attention seeking" profession because they are so insecure it's virtually impossible to meet their EN's! Their need to be constantly adored is so strong, they're at the mercy of their passions! I don't hate Julia Roberts, I feel sorry for her. She clearly has serious problems and will never be happy.

Tom Cruise, as I understand it, met Penelope Cruiz on the set of a movie they were in together and he left NK for her.
I didn't know NK had an affair(s).
Hmmmm, now I know what to peek around for if I can't fall asleep tonight.
Elizabeth

I think I remember Nicole being pregnant around the time Tom left (she had a miscarriage shortly after)...I didn't know he was able to have kids because they always adopted.
Makes you wonder if either one was being faithful...
-HD
[ March 25, 2002: Message edited by: HurtingDeeply ]

Cheating in Hollywood isn't news. I'm not saying it's ok, i'm just saying it's not a big suprise. The only difference between cheating now and cheating "way back when" is that more of the dirty details are aired.
Cindy Crawford cheated on Richard Gere. She's now married to the OM and has 2 kids with him. Gweneth Paltrow cheated on Brad - that's why they're finished. Who is their right mind cheats on Brad Pitt. Heck, who in their wrong mind cheats on Brad Pitt!!!???
I think it would be bigger news to find a Hollywood couple where nobody cheated!

Guess what comes around does o around. I think Tom thought she was slepping with her Moulin Rouge costar. He claims to not have been involved with Penelope when they were making Vanilla Sky. I think he is a liar and one of the biggest phonies around (though Hollywood is full of phonies).

It's full of sleazebags. I dont' remember hearign those storeis about Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere cheating. I remember Cindy Crawford dating several people (including Val Kilmer) after her divorce. I'd also always heard that Brad dumped Gwyneth because she was immature and self absorbed.

There was a NY gossip columnist (AJ Benza) that wrote an item about Cindy cheating. Clandestine meetings, her rushing out of parties early and being seen sneaking off into his car. It was hotly denied with threats of law suits, etc. Next thing you know she's divorced...
A friend of mine was working on a project with Gweneth during her affair with a very young, very sleezy thespian type. We all joked about how she's NUTS to cheat on Brad next thing you know...engagement over.
You'd need a BIG GIANT score card to keep up with the sleeze in that business. Bruce, Wesley, Denzel, Arnold, America's dad Bill C., the list of cheaters is truely ENDLESS!!!!!!!

Not surprised, just hadn't heard that before. I agree about the Hollywood sleaze. A lot of my friends worked inthe entertainment industry when I lived in Hollywood and there were all kinds of stories. I would actually be truly shocked if I found out that there was a male celebrity out there who'd been married for 5 or more years and never cheated.

Tom Cruise--I might have read tabloid headlines, or heart this from on radio disc jockey, but Nicole walked in on him doing some naked male wrestling "to shape up". Things that make you go Hmmmm.

If it makes you happy right this second, go for it, and Who cares who gets hurt in the process. The other thing is the phony baloney family man/woman, "America's sweetheart" images when those people are cheating on their spouses or diddling someone else's spouse.

It saddens me to see Julia get herself into this mess. I've always really admired her for being a "real person" in amidst all the phony stars. I think, however, it proves just how widespread and common this issue is. I wish there were less "scandel" talk and more INFORMATION given. We teach our kids to stay away from drugs, and to be polite...they learn to read and write and add and spell...but who teaches us what the heck relationships are about and what they require to maintain....or what problems can arise, how to spot them and how to deal with and avoid them? We're supposed to learn most of that on our own, and as is common, we tend to learn the hard way. I think it's ridiculous and idealistic to believe that this stuff is going to be taught by parents...because as history has proven most of our parents didn't really have a clue either.
