Ok, for those who may have read my post yesterday about my anniversaries approaching, you are already aware that my six year wedding anniversary is April 13 - those who didn't read my other post, now know too.
Anyhow, I am writing because I want to make this day special and I want to get my husband something special to acknowledge the significance of this day as a celebration of him being in my life. I am blessed with the fact that he stood by my side through even the worst "bad" of our marriage, and as we approach 9 months since d-day I thank God we are progressing well.
Ok, to the point. . . as it seems with many guys you get three standard answers for the following questions: what do you want for christmas? what do you want for your birthday? what do you want for our anniversary? Those answers are usually one of the following: it doesn't matter. I don't know. I don't really want anything.
So, I plead to your suggestions, guys and gals alike, what should I get for my husband for our anniversary???
Hope you all have a great day, and thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Find out what his most important EN is. If it is recreation, buy a ticket to the ballgame. If it is sexual fulfillment, buy a lacy nightgown, hire a babysitter and rent a hotel room for the night. Or maybe do both. The best gift you can give your husband is to let him know, in words and action, that you love him. I can think of nothing better for my birthday.

Hi tutter. According to the pros, 6th anniversary gifts are Traditional: Candy/Iron and Modern: Woodenware. Seems boring though
What kind of things does he like to do? Give us more information about your H so that we can give you some suggestions.

I was just reading over one of my romantic suggestion books the other day trying to think of some good idea to give you...the only thing I came up with borders on sexy/silly. My favorite! It said to find a costume rental place...and rent a costume! LOL! You know the old routine...school girl...or french maid. You'd have to have some idea of his taste in that kind of thing.
H and I wanted to spend a special night away so we rented a hotel room (around Valentines day) and took along some lotions and potions and toys. I was ready for a SEXATHON....well...I gave him a massage...we had a quickie...and he was out. That was that! Never again will I take my H out on a work night!!! Had to give him a TON of guff later cause he kept saying...but I was TIRED, I was TIRED. I said...yea, but in the morning you wake up to a naked woman in your bed...you give me a sly smile and wrap your arm over me....and reach right over to get the remote.???!!! HE REALLY DID! I told him I'm going to the doctor to get some viagra to sneak into his food, LOL! We work too hard.
I know you'll think of something good. Guys really are much easier to please so keep that in mind. It seems like we work so hard to do something BIG to impress them and it gets a ....well, yea, I like it. ??? So it seems that simplicity really can be best somtimes.

tutter---
Some of the best gifts I received from my WW were things that she knew i would love---
Tickets to a concert with one of my favorite performers..
A vacation trip somewhere unexpected but that she knew I would enjoy...
I guess what struck me at the time was how creative she was and how willing she was to pick out something she knew I would love and enjoy but I would never splurge on, on my own.
Of course the trips and concerts always included her, too.
My point, though is that you don't have to spend a lot of $$$$ if the thought is there--yeah, trite I know.
So I guess you know your H better than us, obviously...you know what he likes to do etc...think a little out of the box and i bet you can come up with an idea...
Even if it is a romantic nite away--if he likes that kind of stuff--or game or concert tix or whatever...if he knows how much thought and effort is behind it I am sure he will appreciate it.
Good luck...
E

Ok, Tiny Dancer asked for more info. Well, this is a bit hard (no pun intended). See, my husband usually gives me the "I don't know" or "I don't care" when I ask what he wants to do or would like to do. He spends so much time trying to make me and our son happy and do what we want and like that he don't share much what HE wants. So, I usually get the don't knows and am left to figure it out for myself. However, I have to admit, he is always pleased with my decisions, but I just wish I could really hit this nail smack on the head.
Ok, my husband was in the Marines, he loved to travel, likes the outdoors, likes to ride his Motorcycle (which is still stored right now), enjoys the movies, he recently said he misses going out (hang out at a bar or something together and with his friends), he likes doing things with me (go figure). So, ok, travel is out right now (money), it's a bit chilly still for something really outdoors (Ohio), but I think I'm putting some things together from this thought process and the advice given so far.
So, those still ready, keep the suggestions coming, you are really puting my wheels in motion. Thanks a ton.

Ok, here are my ideas so far - tell me what you think. . .
1) I have a sitter lined up, for an overnight (my parents).
2) I have a nice restaurant in mind to make reservations at for a nice romantic dinner for two.
3) I was thinking of getting a sexy outfit for later at home (in the spirit of Hope's post, he would go more for the school girl idea, and what do you know I still have and fit into my high school skirt)
4) I was going to contact his best friend and ask him to help me get together some of their friends to meet up with at a bar after our dinner. I know he has commented that he misses going out with them (we used to do that).
5) Then, in response to a post of mine from last week someone gave me this idea since we are getting a pool put in, I will wrap up an empty box with a nice bow and a card that says "something for us to wear together in the pool some night".
Any others ideas to add would definately be welcomed. Thanks everyone!

tutter13,
I agree with what a coupple of others have siad. My WW did for me was the simple things to show me that she loved me. Just wanting to share something special. Like a night without the kids or going out to a nice dinner and a hotel room in the next town. I thought of it as getting away from our day to day troubles. Look at what your H really likes to do. Pick one of them and go for it.
Indy

In addition to the gift, I think you should add absolutely NO EXPECTATIONS...
Often special times tarnish because we go into them EXPECTING a certain reaction... when we spend so much time or thought into planning an event, there can be a let down 'effect'...
I think the BEST GIFT would be for you to ENJOY and be GRATEFUL for whatever you do...
Cali

One of the most special things I did for my H kind of surprised ME that he'd like it as much as he did. Originally we were still seperated and I had decided to do a calendar with pictures of him and our son on it. All our pictures are on CD since we have a digital camera and I thought it would be a good way to make sure he has some pics. Anyway, when we got back together I included pictures of us. He really liked it, it showed lots of special and fun moments of love as a family. Now...I'll grant you, you probly haven't time for a whole calendar....it takes FOREVER and it's lots of work. BUT...you could take the idea and go your own way with it. Write him a romantic letter spelling out times in your lives that were wonderful and special...times that your so greatful to be able to look back upon with happiness. Dating times...funny "just between us" moments...funnies with the kids. A nice big letter with a title page...the book of us...or something. Or make a huge list of all the reasons you love him...put some naughty ones in there to light his fire. How about send him a steamy love letter to his work attached to a boquet of massage oils...and the letter tells him PRECISELY what you're going to do with him when you get him home alone? I mean...write a harlequin!
Just some idears...now you've got my gears turnin!! LOL!

Tutter, how about -an 8 x 10 framed picture of either you looking gorgeous, or the 2 of you looking happy. -a basket with favorite gum, candy bars, book, magazine, sports doo-dad (golf tees, batting glove, ace bandage--just kidding) -music CD, I found one with hits from our teenage, college years

I think I've gotten everyone's gears turnin'.
This is great though, I love the insights and ideas. My mind is rolling with ideas. Some of my own, some of yours, some a mix, but all great.
Oh, Cali, thanks for the reminder - no expectations. However, if I know my husband, he will be pleased and surprised.
Keep um coming - I think this has turned into a spirit lifter (as I see some of you are having great fun with this), and I'm gaining a lot from it.
Thanks again everyone. Hi Tutter! I haven't posted in a while but had to tell you that I'm so happy things are going so well for you!
Here's my idea that I did one anniversary.... I made a coupon book on my computer with coupons for all sorts of stuff....."Good for one massage", "Good for your choice of lingerie", etc. I added pictures and made them colorful along with no expiration date. Hubby got a real kick out of it and I think it meant a lot to him that I took the time and effort to make it for him. Also, it creates lots of stuff to do after your anniversary is over!
Another time I took blank business cards and wrote little messages on them -- "I love you", "You're a great Dad", etc. -- and hid them in places where he would find them all day (in his lunch, his jacket pocket, his appointment book, etc.).
Get creative! Sometimes the best things aren't material gifts!
Have a great anniversary!
P.S. We just passed the 2-year D-Day anniversary and things are great.....I still have my moments thinking about the past but time is healing -- especially when you have a spouse that works so hard to grow and make things right -- keep up the good work!
Hugs, JJ

Hi JJ!
Here's another idear for ya....6 days of something special for 6 years of something special.
Then you can do a mixture of all of the ideas...Cause personally I wouldn't suggest the hot steamy letter at work, then an evening out to dinner and surprising him with FRIENDS...he'll be wantin you ALONE.

Thanks for the laugh. I guess that sounds pretty accurate, but I don't know if that can encumpass the whole night - although I'm sure he'd love that. However, I'm sure I can fit it in when we get to our alone time.

Hi tutter,
Some really well thought and creative answers here.
Here's my idea: A letter or poem telling your H the things about him that you love. His scent, the way he sings in the shower, his loyalty, courage, whatever qualities make him special and unique. Think back to things he's done that made him so irresistible to you, that you haven't thought about for a long time or haven't mentioned to him in a long time.
Then compose your love letter.
Now, on to the material things: If the 6th anniversary is traditionally wood or iron, does he golf? Does he have a broken golf club that you can get fixed?
I don't golf. But last Thanksgiving my H took me and our S to a small par 3 course, and when my ball lay between two tree trunks, I swung and bent his 7 iron. The space was too tight to swing a club, but I didn't know that, and it didn't occur to my H to warn me.
For Valentines day I went shopping for a replacement 7 iron. The man at the golf shop told me he could fix it. I forgot the official term for the procedure. It wasn't too expensive either. And he threw in for free a little fuzzy cover for the thing (what do you call those things?)
Happy anniversary. If you decide to go with the letter or poem, you can always post back for comments and help.
PS about the letter: Back when we'd only been married a few years, way before my H's EA, I wrote my mother in law a letter for Mother's Day telling her how grateful I was for the son she'd raised to be my husband. (I couldn't write a letter like that now, because of all that he has done. I just never talk about our problems with her because she is too sweet, and too frail.)
She kept my letter in a scrap book. She photocopied the back page so that you could read both sides.
When my favorite aunt died of Alzheimer's, I wrote my favorite uncle a letter telling him how much he meant to me in my life. It's been years, but he tells me he keeps that letter in his wallet and reads it all the time.
[ April 05, 2002: Message edited by: Bellevue ]

Thanks Belle for the insights. Yeah, I think I will add the letter to my plans.
So far I have made dinner reservations at a nice restaurant. I contacted his best friend, who we haven't been out with in awhile for several reasons on both ends, and he is going to get together the guys so we can all meet up around 9 PM. It will be nice, and I know my husband will love the surprise because I know he misses being able to go out with them and me, so I've managed to work it all into one night. Then, I have my parents to watch my son all night, so we will get some alone intimate time later.
My husband's work has a paging service when the computers go down. They can fix it via phone. His dad (president) usually covers the night time, but is out of town for a couple of weeks, so my husband has the plesure of it. I told him last night that he needs to let his brother-in-law (who works there to) know he needs to cover it that night. He asked "why?" I simply said, "we have dinner reservations at 6:30 and I have plans for us afterwards. My parents are watching S all night so you will not be available until the next morning." He asked if we would be home that night, and I said yes. {He was seeing if we were going to a hotel; which he isn't too particular on always.} I said I took into consideration what you like and don't particularly like and I've made plans to try to make our anniversary special. He smiled and kissed me. I can't wait!
Thanks again. I'll keep everyone posted, especially after the big night.
