Here is the latest, nothing very dramatic, just an update.
We've seen an MD about our son's emotional problems, he gets anxious and can't focus or concentrate on schoolwork. He has been this way since First Grade. (Coincidentally, this is about when OW became his BestFriend. I don't believe their relationship is the Cause of the problems, because they have been constant. We've also had extensive testing done on our son, and there seems to be a type of learning disability and some emotional shortcircuitry.)
Finally, for the first time, we're trying him on a Rx prescribed by this latest doctor. Still don't see much difference and neither does our son.
The doctor asked how things were at home. I told her we have serious problems but didn't go into the nature of them. My H sat right there and said our problems don't affect our S, he has no idea that anything is wrong, and I said, Well, obviously he sees that I sleep in another room.
H: He doesn't know anything.
Me: He's asked me whether we're getting a divorce.
H; He hasn't said anything to me.
Well, of course he says nothing to him. My H is a master of repression and denial. Son does all his "feelings" talking to me, not to him.
I thought it was only fair to let this MD know the true state of our family, since she had to evaluate our S and decide how to treat him. To lie and say the marriage was secure was unthinkable to me.
[ April 04, 2002: Message edited by: Bellevue ]

No matter how we (parents) try to shelter our children from painful facts of life, they are in tune. Your son is definitely in tune to the emotional state of your M--just by his question to you!!! I think it is healthy to face truth and I think what you did by speaking up to the doctor was very courageous of you and hopefully it will help your H to face some issues in the marriage that need attention.
Just because your son has not mentioned how he feels to your H, doesn't mean that the feelings don't exist. It's amazing to me if that is how your H chooses to think??? (DENIAL!)
If I were you, I wouldn't worry too much about your son, although it is alarming when our kids get depressed due to OUR unhappiness. He's probably just sad cuz you're sad. I'll say a prayer for you guys. Hang in there!
