the new show w/ Julie Louis-Dreyfus?
did you catch last night's episode and know what's missing from this info found on NBS's site About the show?

quote:
Emmy Award-winning actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus (“Seinfeld” returns to NBC as the star of “Watching Ellie,” a new half-hour comedy detailing the life of a Los Angeles club singer, Ellie Riggs (Louis-Dreyfus), a single woman living in Los Angeles whose life is examined weekly in a 22-minute snapshot uniquely presented in real time.
Each week, Ellie confronts all manner of annoyances, including her much-too-pretty, married younger sister Susan (Lauren Bowles, “Ghost World” , mysterious international neighbor Ingvar (Peter Stormare, “Chocolat,” “Fargo” , and ex-boyfriend Edgar (Steve Carell, “The Daily Show” . Meanwhile, Ellie is trying to figure out just where she stands with her current “beau,” Ben (Darren Boyd, BBC’s “Smack the Pony” , who’s a guitarist in her band. Don Lake (”Best in Show” also stars as Ellie’s veterinarian neighbor, Dr. Zimmerman.
Written and created by executive producer Brad Hall (NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” “Brooklyn Bridge” , the “Watching Ellie” premiere was directed by Ken Kwapis (“Malcolm in the Middle,” “The Larry Sanders Show” . I don't know... I have an almost morbid curiousity about it...
How will all play out? will there be a d-day...
will they show W? (this is the first episode I have seen).
Do her friends know he's married? They were all so matter-of-fact about him in her life...
I have this urge to write someone about the show... and I'm not even a d*** conservative... pretty liberal (though not about marriage and fidelity LOL)...
I wasn't sure to be relieved or sorry that H wasn't home to see it w/ me. I saw the episode where she was supposed to sing at a wedding and I thought it was terrible. She is less than a great actress, the plot was predictable, etc...and yes, it did not escape me that Ben is married. Geez.

This post I just had to reply to... I was not interested in the show - i had heard a lot of negatuve things so I didn't bother.
The night I found out about my H's A I went over my best friend's house (in tears of course). Guess what was on - Elly. First time I saw it. H had bought necklace for Elly. Turned out it was necklace W had pointed out to H. W found out he had bought necklace and was waiting to recieve it. Told him so on phone (did show wife) but he had already given it to Elly ( who hated it by the way). It kills me. It happens a lot I'm sure. The affection that we are begging for goes to OW.

We don't have a TV anymore. It eliminates a lot of triggers Even the "foohiking" Cartoon Network has the Flintstones struggling with infidelity. It isn't the reason we got rid of it, but it helps.
While we were living at the hotel I saw a few episodes of this show. What strikes me as funny is that JLD is a happily married woman who by all accounts seems pretty dedicated to her children and husband.
Her hubby wrote this for her, they pitched it and she made a lot of demands, didn't want to work much, be away from family, insisted hubby very involved, etc.
I read once that they tried a night at a hotel to "get away from kids" and she went home crying within a few hours because she couldn't stand to be away from them. H said that she was "courageous" for doing this show because she could have just taken any old sitcom mom gig.
(Yes, they had TV guide at the hotel too I am such an information junkie I will read anything I swear, shampoo bottles, Teen People, dissertations on magnetic resonance, a prospectus for a mutual fund I have no intention of ever owning, etc. Yes, I realize I have a problem.)
I hope for her and her children's sake that she never experiences a D-day but I wonder why hubby felt the need to write this particular scenario?
[ April 21, 2002: Message edited by: nursebetty ]
