Hi there everyone!
No...I haven't been drinking, although I've thought about it a few times ...What I mean is that I finally have internet access at home again!
The last time I posted on this site it had only been a few months since my husbands affair, and I wasn't anywhere near a credible recovery. I was in the process of making a decision about whether or not to go on antidepressants and was looking for advice on which ones had worked for others.
With the help of my doctor I gave meds a try - and I must say the experience wasn't a positive one. First the type was wrong...then the dosage...and don't get me started on side effects! After 4 different brands we finally settled on one and for a while there my world didn't seem so black. I started therapy - with my husband, and we tried to put things back together. It was a nightmare. I started to have anxiety attacks that my doctor thought were a result of the emotional effects of the affair, but as it turns out it was the meds. Only problem was that it took 5 months to finally figure that out. By then I was also having a problem with fatigue. Everything was falling apart, and I didn't have the energy or strength to deal with it all. I went into withdrawl and denial. Things got worse from there, and my husband and I almost didn't make it. Finally I made the decision to get off the antidepressants. At first I thought I was feeling better - but since I had quit cold turkey (against my doctors advice)I had no idea what I was in for. I'll spare you all the details (this post is getting long - sorry!) and just say that I crashed - emotionally and physically. Things were so bad that some of my family thought I was no longer capable of taking care of my kids and tried to have me hospitalized! Thank God they can't do that where I live!!!
That point was 4 months ago now...and I'm relieved to say that I've finally found something that helps...I mean really really helps!
We're both still in therapy, and actually making a little progress (baby steps anyway) but I'm not sure that's what's been making the difference.
We also have started taking a herbal product - and I honestly can't believe the difference it's made for my husband and I. We're both feeling more 'level' and we even have more energy! It's made life so much easier! The benefits have been amazing! We're both healthier now and feeling much better than we have since this whole nightmare started. If nothing else we have renewed energy to face what's happened in our marriage and take the steps towards an honest recovery - which is a much better place than the one we started in believe me! We still have a long way to go, and plenty of healing to do...but for now at least the outlook is positive for the first time in a long while. I guess I should have gone with the 'natural' method a long time ago. Thanks all for 'listening'... -Anna

Anna,
Good to hear from you. Boy you have been through the ringer!!!!
Are you saying that you and your H are in recovery? What is that herbal supplement that you found beneficial?
Your situation certainly puts a note of caution on meds. Though it has helped many we still need to be cautious.
Thanks for the update. L.

Orchid! Wow! it's great to hear from you. It's so nice to come back after so long and find some of the 'old crew' still here. Yes, Joe and I have started an HONEST recovery. It was a tough road, but I think we needed the time to learn how to be honest with ourselves. In the beginning I don't thing we had accepted the fact that we had both put our marriage in the position it was. Now that some of those intense feelings have settled we're more willing to look at the roles we each played...and more importantly learn WHY it happened and how to NOT let it happen again. Thank goodness for therapy. As for the medication - I still believe it can be helpful - it just wasn't something that worked for me. Your right that everyone should approach meds cautiously. I'd love to tell you more about the herbals I've been taking - but I'm not sure it's 'in line' with the principals of this site. Just so I don't break any guidlines why don't you e-mail me (ajpoud@telusplanet.net) and I'll tell you all about them? Take care my friend... It's nice to know your still out there. -Anna
