Hi All,
This weekend is very slow or I am too fast ... Anyway fun post to start the week, What do you think of spiderman movie
It is a romance movie, the actions are good but not as great as the love/relationship story in it .... I enjoyed watching Pete pouring his heart out at MaryJeane at the hospital room. Also at the end when MaryJeane pour her heart out to Pete. There are a lot of relationship ... Even triangle relationship between Peter, Norman and his son !!!

Many years ago the founder of Marvel comics, Stan Lee, was asked how come Spider-man was so popular considering that there were other super-heroes that were more powerful and he said that he beleived it was because the character of Peter Parker was dealing with real life issues (teenage isolation, love, death of love one) while at the same time dealing with the craziness of world gone nutty with super-villains. The people that read the comic book (mostly kids and young adults) could relate with all that was happening in Peter Parker's life. Spider-man was and is an imperfect super-heroe unlike the more powerful ones with god-like powers that had personalities that are just too perfect and are more symbolic representations of good i.e. Superman.
I myself liked it but it's not surprising since I liked reading those comic books as a kid. What was surprising was how my oldest daughter (14 years old) liked it and she has never shown any desire in buying and reading comic books at all. I hope she doesn't develop a liking to reading them because they are now prohibitively expensive
Joe
[ May 07, 2002: Message edited by: TooMuchCoffeeMan ]

I live in Okinawa--the minute the movie gets here, there will be people sitting in line around the little tiny theater 5 hours before the movie starts (at least) in an attempt to get a ticket. The movie might be here for two days at the most before they take it to one of the southern camps or the Air Force base. After following this proceedure in order to take my little boy to see "the Scorpion King," I don't think I will do this again. It might be six months before he gets to see Spiderman. So, no critic here!

I loved it, I thought that watching Peter Parker slowly discovering his own powers and resposabilities drawns the public to be on his side, to feel comfortable with the character.
The way the story goes, with no amazing happy endings made it the best superhero movie I have seen. The ending is definetly the best, and if you have ever read an Spider Man comic... well you know what I mean by it.
The different relationships between Peter MJ, his best friend and the father of his best friend (sorry I am TERRIBLE with names, even when I have read so many comic books!). Are rather engaging. Not overly sophisticated but there is the character development, and a good way to introduce the idea of a sequel.
BTW the saturday after spiderman was released was also free comic book day, so it was a good way to start a comic book collection. Yes they are expensive, but what can i say, I have loved manga (Japanese comics) since I was in elementary, and it is a way to get out of reality besides my beloved books. They make me smile.
Two thumbs up!!!
Everybody go see it!
BTW they are showing the MIB II trailer in this movie, I CAN'T WAIT to see that movie, I love MIB!

LOVED IT! AWESOME!!!! I thought it was excellent. We went on opening night, and we all thought it was great. My H is the actual Spider-man fan. He can't get enough of Spider-man. We brought our son and we all were impressed with it. I know we couldn't wait for X-men and we were a little disappointed with it. But now we can wait for Spider-man II & III.

Toby Maguire would have to get more animated to be DEAD! He was so low key, I thought he was in a coma.
I like KD better as a blonde, I don't care if MJ IS supposed to have red hair. Cliff Robertson seemed as if he was trying to hard to recapture his 'macho' as a hollywood star that has been put out to pasture. I like Aunt May, she was just perfect. Yes, I know comic adaptations are all about overacting but the guy who was Jameson was too, too.
But...the effects were awesome and Willem Dafoe was superb. He's a natural born evil genius!
I liked it and can't wait for the next one.
And I'm gonna see the Incredible Hulk!

I liked it and my 11 year old son liked it. I didn't like the bad dye job for Kirstin Dunst. The movie didn't seem quite as polished as a movie by James Cameron or Steven Spielberg so I think it still had room to be better, even with the same basic story. But it was definitely worth seeing.
[ May 10, 2002: Message edited by: Want2FixIt ]

Well, we just got in the door from seeing it - my kids loved it - (6 and 8 - believe it or not). I liked it a lot as well - I've always loved the old Spiderman cartoons and comics.
Tobey McGuire was "ok" - his performance was understated which I didn't mind, but I felt "Spidey" lacked that "wit" and "panache" he has in the cartoons. You know, all the clever quips etc. Perhaps that will unfold in the next Spiderman movie - after all in this first one he's a young man, just learning how to spin his webs...

My son and I went last night... and although I thought... oh no, a kids' movie..he told me it had a love story in it... and that of course is the part I enjoyed.
I cried at the end when spiderman told mj about how he would always love and protect her....and always be there for her... that was my H... back in the old days... My superhero! I get so sad at any of the love story parts in any movies! it was so sweet... I also loved the part in the hospital room where peter told mj how great he saw her! what a wonderful way to treat someone you love!
I liked the effects and I thought the lunch tray thing hilarious where he busted the guy with the food when learning how to use his web... spinning!
I liked it when he went building hopping...when learning too! that was so cute!
I agree... toby is a little dry... I love him so much in that movie about the orphanage... I can't remember the name of it>>>??? anyone remember?
but still good movie...
I did not like the evil villan character at all and that part of the movie kind of annoyed me , but I guess a superhero has to be out saving people...
and that part about the uncle getting killed because spiderman.. peter did not do the right things.... kind of... in stopping the thief.... oh so sad! heartbreaking!
I liked how the families were contrasted... mj's home without the friendly decor and with the yelling.. and peters kind home.... now that is what I want in my house!
Honey
