I would think that any anti-virus program will still work in either browser. The anti-virus program is loaded onto the computer so you should see it when you aren't online in the programs. The program should do fine accessing it's updates in either browser that is set as the default. I have used AVG and Norton and both haven't had a problem with Mozilla Firefox.

[color:"navy"] CV55, I agree with Trix that your Norton Anti Virus should work just fine.

And I agree with Racer X that they didn't improve staying logged on when they worked on this site for several days!

Cv55, go ahead and download Firefox.

You will just love not getting logged off.

And yes you will have two icons on your desktop and you can either click on IE or Firefox. (Firefox works good for this MB but it doesn't work as good for me for emailing as IE.)

I put Marriage Builders in 'Bookmarks' so I just click on it and it takes me to General Questions 11. ( To put something in Bookmarks or Favorites, just right click on the web address and it will say 'Bookmark this page'.

Don't forget to set Firefox as your default when you download it, for it to work best.
You can't do anything wrong. It can easily be removed if it causes problems. (Which it won't, over 45 million people have downloaded it!)

And hey, who bought the computer and pays the monthly bill, you or your son? You have a right to download whatever you want. STAY STRONG MOM.

Thanks Trix and BT! Yes, DS did not buy this computer, however, if it weren't for him we'd still have a gazillion pop-ups to deal with. This computer was in BAD shape several months ago. He spent a lot of time having to erase everything and then installed the anti-virus and anti-popup programs.

We don't have Norton this time, but McAfee(?) anti-virus. DS isn't having us log in through SBC, but IE, because he said it doesn't work with SBC. Don't ask me what the heck he's talking about because I have no idea. I just do what he says, and am happy to report haven't had one pop-up since he worked his magic.

This is my dilemma. If I download Firefox and it screws something up, will he have to come to MB to fix it? He wanted to read what you all were saying but I really can't have him even seeing this site. I'll try it if we can avoid that. And what do you mean by "set Firefox as your default when you download it?" Can one of you just come to my house and do all this for me? I'll pay for the plane ticket and take you out to dinner. CV

[color:"navy"]Come to your house and set it up...That is funny. I would be glad to.

CV55, I PROMISE you won't mess anything up if you download FIREFOX.

I am thinking your 'secrecy' about this site is making your son think you are looking at PORN or involved in a chat with other men!

You do realize he can go to History or View Temporary Files and see the sites you have visited, don't you?
He probably already knows you are reading here at MB, just doesn't know your ID since you are not staying logged on.

My suggestion would be to go ahead and download Firefox (it will ask the question do you want this as your default) I don't know exactly what it really means, just know you need to do this!~lol~

You can keep logged on all day, and then before your son comes home, go ahead and log out. That way he won't know your ID.
Otherwise it would say: "Welcome CV55" and he could read your posts.

Firefox ALSO has pop up blocker with it, so you should NEVER get popups any more. (I don't get any.)

Sincerely, Julie

Julie, I'm going to be bold and download Firefox. So where on this thread do I find the instructions? Am I lazy or what? I always log off every time I use the computer so I hope DS has never seen this site. I also hope he's not that interested in knowing what I'd doing. Although one year ago, right after d-day, both boys I'm sure wondered why their mom was constantly locked in the bedroom on the computer. Thanks much! CV

[color:"navy"]YAY FOR CV55!!!!

Just click on the topic title of this thread, as that will give you the very first post with 'instructions'.

DId you know that even though you log off, your History of the sites you visit are still there? (Unless you deleted them.)

If you click on the Ctrl button in the lower left hand corner and the letter H, it will show the sites you visited.
I can tell you how to delete them if you want me to.

BOB, if you happen to read this, would you tell her of the SAFETY of downloading Firefox? You actually gave me the 'courage' to download it several months ago.

Sincerely, Julie

I forgot to ask 2 more questions. If you could tell me how to erase my history I'd appreciate it. Also I noticed that when I signed in using IE or Firefox it asks me if I want to use it as the default server. Do I just need to do that every time I sign in using either one? Thanks again! CV

[color:"navy"]My fingers are crossed!~lol!~

I think it will just ask once about default.
It is ok to say yes on the Firefox.

Here is how to erase History on the Firefox browser.

Click on 'Tools'
Then 'Options'
Then click on 'Clear All'
Again click on 'Clear all information'
Then click on 'OK'
And History is erased

On IE
It is about the same.
Click on 'Tools'
Then 'Internet Options'
Click on clear 'Internet files' and 'Clear History'
Then 'Yes' and 'Ok'

Let us know if you stay logged on.

Don't forget to go to MY HOME and DISPLAY PREFERENCES, EDIT and make your skin(background) a pretty color. Then click on SUBMIT. (Then you know at a glance that you are logged on.)

Julie, I was fine until that last bit of info you gave me. I have NO IDEA what you're talking about. I am just so happy to be on MB not talking about As. La La, LA La, La! There are more important things to talk about, such as computers for example. CV

[color:"navy"]Hi CV55.
And I prefer to talk about perennial flowers.
I am 'obsessed' with flower gardens and have more flowers and gardens than I can take care of. (We live in the country and have 4 acres.)

I have been out in the rain today, transplanting flowers and pulling weeds!!!

Ok, this is what I mean.
Right above these messages, is a place that says My Home, Main Index, Search etc.

Click on 'My Home'.
Scroll down and you will see.
DISPLAY PREFERENCES....click on EDIT

There is a place to make your skin (background) a pretty color. Mine is blue...Then click on SUBMIT.
(Then you know at a glance that you are logged on.)
If you are logged off, it will be plain ole white.

Is your 'default display mode' on Flat (not threaded)
Threaded doesn't work right, has to be on Flat.
You will find that in the same place as above.

Let me know if you don't understand.
Remember, I teach computer (beginner and a little advanced~lol~) so if I am not explaining it good enough, it is MY FAULT, not yours.

Sincerely, Julie

Julie, tonight I think I'm going to be home alone. For some reason I am really looking forward to that. It's rainy, cold, and we might get dumped on with snow. I just want to hunker down, get under my electric blankie, and have some Chinese food! Doesn't take a lot to make me happy. I'm going to copy down all of your computer istructions and maybe try some of them too. Thanks for taking the time to teach me.

I'm sure my few plants wish they had you as their owner. I have a tendency to let my plants get to the brink of dying of thirst and then, instead of letting them die, I pump them full of water. This woman does not have a green thumb. You're not going to see me voluntarily in my rainy backyard digging in the dirt. CV

BT, this is getting to be my running monologue to you. I just thought you would find this pretty funny. I went to log in to Firefox and guess what? DS deleted it. He asked his dad what he should do and H told him to delete it. Here it takes me a friggin month to finally download it and it was installed for one whole day. Well I'll gonna go install it again. [color:"navy"]CV, I am sorry to hear that!

I guess you are going to have to tell them to leave it there this time.

But now that you know how to download FIREFOX, it will be a snap for you. (Anyone reading this, the download site is in post # 1)

Could you tell them you like to log on to the Dr.Phil or Oprah or Plantideas (a gardening site) or some other message boards? And that you need Firefox to stay logged on?

You would have to sign up on a message board besides this one, in order to stay truthful.

I was sure happy with your post before your latest one.
I didn't reply because I wanted CV55 to be the most recent one showing, NOT Blessed TIME.

Julie, you're not going to believe this. I downloaded it again, and now it's gone. I think maybe I'm not supposed to be posting on MB. Anywho, It was good to here about what your name means. My impatience might just be the death of our recovery. CV

[color:"navy"]CV, do you mean your son deleted it again?
Because it does NOT just disappear.

He needs to understand that it is FINE to have another way of entering into the World Wide Web!!!

It actually may come in handy if Internet Explorer is running slow or having technical difficulties to have another way of getting on the Internet.

Have him call a computer shop expert, they will tell him.

Try downloading it again.
And you DO belong here at MB. I think you are VERY patient!

BT, just want you to know I've been logged on for days now. I can hardly believe it. One question. When I tried to delete the history from Firefox it didn't follow your script. After "options" it was different. Any suggestions? Thanks! CV
