Lem, in a 26-year military career, I've seen the most junior of enlisted men and women fall prey to moments of vulnerability and I've seen the most senior of officers go the same route. I've assisted in processing a fast retirement of a 3-star general (who lost one of his stars) because he couldn't keep his hands off the enlisted women on his staff and I've counseled a young airman whose wife was determinedly working her way through a squadron of OMs.
I've watched a full colonel begin a relationship with his executive officer, a female captain who was nowhere near as classy or good looking as his wife. He was up for promotion to brigadier general when the affair was discovered. It wrecked his career…and hers. I’ve watched a married, mid-level NCO become infatuated with a topless dancer at a bar right outside the main gate and eventually leave his wife and two kids for a year’s relationship that died an ugly death. I even saw a female chaplain as she betrayed both her faith and her husband by engaging in a relationship with an OM, a DoD contractor, in a combat zone. I guess it has little to do with position, rank, or status. I can’t find the common denominator, so if you do, please let me know.
I've never understood why people who, like your surgeon, should be among our society’s most disciplined of men and women make such terrible choices. I guess what I'm saying is I've felt the same loss of respect I see in your words for those who stray, seemingly with little or no excuse.

Yeah, and the first thing in doing this "teaching" would be to shut down the law school. . . . and removing all the pedestals from the Doctors' residences . . .

Some people just don't get it, they don't get it that they don't get it.

Being sued 6 times makes you realize how much one hates lawyers.....UNTILL you need one. Lem

The Sharks (aka lawyers) were suing us for a bad outcome...it's the price of doing business ) That's why we LOVE you guys SO much!!!! Actually, I've only handled one medical mal case and I represented the "good" doctor....This moron actually left the courthouse after the first day of trial because his vacation was more important. Long after our case was over (we got a 49% comparative negligence offset - not bad considering our patient was a prisoner in the local workhouse and our doc was the prison doc) the same doc was indicted and convicted for trafficking in Meth. Okay, TJ over. Oh, and yeah, the legal profession is notorious for its affairs....I could name more than 10 I know of off the top of my head... BB

Well, you'd think the IT industry would be just too geeky for anything exciting, but I've come to the conclusion that a lot of consultants like work where they have to stay away in hotels for months, for reasons other than a love of travel.
A few years ago, I worked for a company where the Marketing Director was always arranging get-togethers in hotels. After a few of these where I would have drunken colleagues tapping on my door in the early hours, I began to have my suspicions about the purposes of these junkets. Eventually there was a huge trip to Spain for the whole company (about 100 people), with everyone sharing a room with someone else...my colleagues were in a frenzy of plotting and doing deals. I got a room to myself - I thought it was because I was the sole middle-aged woman, but I soon realised it was because I was the only one in the company who wasn't trying to get into someone else's underwear. The weekend was a Benny Hill nightmare. Several people got fired during the weekend, and there were several divorces afterwards. I left the company quite rapidly...
I had no idea that my own H would have fitted in perfectly.

A sound theory. Guess they need to start teaching ethics at Harvard Medical School . . . Yeah, and the first thing in doing this "teaching" would be to shut down the law school. LM
