We will be free from 27 Jul - 16 Aug 05, and were thinking of driving out there to visit children and grandchildren. A visit to "beautiful downtown Burbank" would add something different to our intennerary(sp?).

I was gonna say ... if you can figure out a way to get to Universal Studios by way of public transportation ... you are then a hop-skip-jump from the wonderfully tacky Bob's.

The Central train station is not all that far either .... and if FF is gonna pick Believer up from the train station ... PEP is gonna buy Believer's food and drink! <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I have lost more than 23 pounds since January

I'm an OBSESSIVE Weight Watcher! I don't know what a "core food" is though. Is that something new? I haven't been to meetings in a while. I have been maintaining my weight...obsessively, of course....

sadly not on the list.... FL. although i will be in Indiana at a spa that weekend with the family and my H's brother and his family and my MIL (9 in all) to celebrate my BIL's 50th bday. as well as my H's 45th bday.

Reassure Mr. Pep there won't be a lynch mob waiting to hang him. Ask RH, my Xws used to come to those cute get togethers. He got right into the convos from the start. He babbled sometimes but since he was already coming out of the fog, I believe he helped some of the BS who were knewer get a clearer picture. Some of the BS' were able to talk with him better than others but all in all, he had an enjoyable time. I recall H was 1st scared that he would be lynched. LOL!! I assured him that I left the rope at home and told the others t/d the same. LOL!!! Of course if he did get out of line, I always kept my handcuffs in my back pocket (aka: plan B). <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Step-son broke his arm on 1 July. When Docs checked, they found a tumor. With all the catscans, MRIs, etc., they just operated yesterday.

Needless to say, we are not on our way to CA. We were really looking forward to meeting you folks and seeing some of our children and grandchildren.

You should be able to get a taxi. Are you coming in to the Burbank Airport station? Or downtown L.A.? (from downtown L.A. to Toluca Lake would be really expensive.)

I let my son know where I'm going today. He said "MOM! You don't even know these people? What if one of them is an ax murderer?" I told him that there aren't too many ax murders at Bob's Big Boy.

This is the son who goes surfing in Mexico, Costa Rica, and all over the world, and never even gives it a second thought.

I've just told FF in an e-mail that I'm going to try and call her cellphone at about 5.30 her time.

We're going to my sister's for lunch and it could be hard to explain why I'm going outside to call a bunch of rowdy Americans - but I'll try.

I had no idea WST was gonna be there.

I arrived about 15 minutes before 4. (that's 3:45 for 2Long) ... and I had about 10 leis around my neck, as well as a sparkley tiara on my lovely smooth flat hair. I was trying to STAND OUT so as to be recognized by complete strangers! (what a concept!)

Almost immediately, a strange man comes up to me ( truthfully, he is not that strange, even tho he is from ~you know where~ ) .... and he says "Pepperband" ... and I'm thinking "Huh?" ... I am not accustomed to strangers saying to me "Pepperband" ... I was rocked backwards on my heels for a second. PLUS ... I knew he was not RedHat nor 2Long ... and as far as I knew, they were the only 2 men who were scheduled to arrive !!! here he was folks, THE AX MURDERER !!!

So WST and I went in and sat down to enjoy the minor discomfort of knowing-and-not-knowing someone for the first time ... and in walks a lady that fits the description of BELIEVER ! She takes one look at me with all this foolishness I am wearing and immediately goes outside to sit on a bench alone.

I stand up and stare at her through the window. She sees me and gestures to herself and then gestures to me ... and I nod ... and she comes back in.

I go up to her and say "aloha" and place a lei around her neck and give each of her cheeks a Hollywood 'air kiss' and we start to talk.

I say 'Are you Believer?' ... "I'm Pepperband"...

Pseudo-B was meeting a woman about my age who she had not seen since HIGH SCHOOL ... and to her credit ... she did not run in terror when she realized a completely foolish strange woman named "pepperband" for gawds sake, had leid her and air-kissed her!

... I thought this might be the highlight for WST! LOL

So, pseudo-B-ax-murderess sits in the 'holding area' with WST and I to laff about the mix-up. Pseudo-B was plotting how to snatch my tiara ... I could tell she was jealous! Enter a fabulous woman with 2 chitlens ... and taking one look at the 3 of us ~Pep, WST, and pseudoB-ax-murderess~ she immediately recognized friendly crazy people ... this time, there was no mistaking FaithfulFollower.

How funny is it to hear people say "Hi, let me introduce myself. I'm Pepperband, this is Was Sad Tiger, and this is NOT Believer, but an ax murderess looking for her high school friend" ... "You must be FaithfulFollower?"

Truthfully, this is the moment of truth I think ... sort-of the unveiling of the cloak of internet privacy ...

I know you see me as the MB pep ... but this is the real life Pep ...

and the real life FF ... and the real life WST ... and there we were checking each other out ... trying to reconcile our MB impression to the real thing.

An interesting few minutes.

BELIEVER I am so sorry you could not be there ... but this being 'Hollywood' ... we were provided with a 'stand in' ... <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

To smooth over the moments of uncomfortable first impressions ... I gave FF's DD a 'Mad libs' book ... and we played that game for awhile.

Turns out, WST is very good at mad libs ... he made word choices that were unbelievably appropriate and hilariously funny when the story is read back.

I think FF's kids held up remarkaqbly well, considering this was a bunch of adults talking in MB-speak-code and she had nothing to do but wish she were somewhere else with her friends.

I think FF's DS was entertained by the lights, the noise and the laughter.

We got called to our table.

Bellevue was next to arrive. She is drop-dead-gorgeous .... sans hot rollers! <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Believer, Bellevue is the one who spoke to your room mate .... my Spanish is fluent in restaurants and semi-fluent when asking where is the pain ... but woefully inadequate when it comes to asking "Donde esta Believer?' ...

Bellevue is very lady-like, very pretty, and has a feminine softness about her. She exudes peacefullness from her being.

She got lei'd, naturally.

Pep - this EXCEEDS my expectations!!! This has the zaniness as in zany-ness of the old Barbara Streisand movie "What's Up Doc!"

You tell such a good story - we don't need pictures. The poor woman who was waiting for her old friend...her impressions I will laugh about all day. You make a fine hostess - leis, tiara, and "Mad-Lib", my boys favorite game; you throw a heck of a party!

How on earth can the Texans possibly top this?

I can't stop...the timing of the events is priceless - to first have a surpise guest WST, then the axe murderer B; then have the expected guests show up is hilarious! It wouldnt' have been the same if the people you already knew showed up first followed by WST and the AM #B...it's really priceless!

I was seated at the back of the restaurant facing in the direction where anyone joining us would be visable to me first.

And, every dayum woman over 50 who walked in our direction, I made my special 'smiley-face' as in ---> 'I only look weird, I don't really want to hack you to pieces with my little ax' ... and I made my friendly-harmless smiley face , over, and over, and over (in vain) ... and I do wonder what these non-BELIEVERS must have thought of THAT!

Then, comes a woman who I do not recognize ... and she is headed straight my way. And she looks nothing if not DETERMINED to address our table ... and I am thinking ??? 'Is this Believer? She looks nothing like her photo.'

This woman comes over and sez... "I am NerlyCrazy" <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> Holy crap ! Now this is the ax murderer ... coz Nerly was on the "penciled in" list and NEVER confirmed !!!!

Introductons all around. Inward *sigh* of relief on my part.... she is MB Nerly and NOT ax-murderer-nerly-crazy ... <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Nerly has an amazingly contageous laff. low and throaty ... and 2Long has it on his cell phone, coz I called him from my cell phone ... and Nerly, WST and Pep left him a voice mail ... and it wasn't until 2Long regained consciousness (sugar high) he said ... "There's a voice mail from you?"

Nerly has dignity and presence ... and the laff I remember the most.

There was one 'moment' when an unexpected arrow pierced my heart.

I did see it, Pep. I also noticed the table got very quiet for a short bit when I told my DS's story. I have to say I just met some of the most amazing people yesterday. All warm, caring wonderful people with a sense of humor. I could have sat there all night talking to them if kids woulda let me. <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

What a wonderful afternoon! It was too bad that the other MB'er had to cancel at the last minute, the MB'er with two kids, that is, because Katy would have had more in common with another youngster. She and Wyatt are beautiful children, and unbelieveably well behaved when you realize how long we were there, and that except for the goofy things Pep brought, not much for them to do.

I started feeling like Alice at the Mad Tea Party when Nerlycrazy came up and introduced herself. Surreal, Monty Pythonesque moments. And every time her name was repeated - it was so funny!

WST, I didn't curl my hairdo, them's natural curls. I use the hot rollers on my arm hairs to give them body. <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> Don't tell me nobody noticed after all the work I put in! [lying <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" />]

Melody, I first was fixin' to order a veggie burger. But Katy sitting next to me brought me to my senses. She was ordering a meat burger. And I realized - Bob's is not the place to be a vegetarian. Unbelievably good, I wolfed it down.

Pepperband used to be a flight attendant. The energy - good Lord, where does she get it? Do you ever sleep? She has enough energy to share with the whole table.

Red Hat and his Lady came in, can you imagine the kind of relationship potential for the two of them, using MB principles? They really do look like a couple.

I hope somebody took a pic of 2long's vw bus for the record. Words cannot describe it. Like Nerlycrazy's name, you just have to laugh. I'm so glad I went!

We sat and ate and carried on several simultaneous conversations across the table. I always have a difficult time in this sort of environment .. I cannot maintain focus with one conversation ... I try to hear and see what else is going on at the same time ... don't want to miss out on anything.

I became aware that I wanted to talk more in-depth MB stuff, but with a smart-as-a-whip 12-year-old sitting next to me ... I felt it was necessary to restrain myself.

It was funny, O said she wanted to have a package sent to the restaurant with some goodies she'd sent. The pkg was delayed, unfortunately. Pep, my DD is very sharp but innocent as well. She did not pick up on the MB lingo at all. What concerned her was she was asking about people's M's (this is a marriage building site right?) and I had to say no this one is D'ing, no this one is D'ed and has a g/f, yes this is still M'd and happy etc..

Told her the ones that are D'ing are prepping themselves for the future M's. Right now DD is totally innocent to all that happened with us. I really appreciate the restrain t with which you all conducted yourselves. I am quite impressed!
