In my case, WW informed me that she had written a NC letter. When that occurred, I knew the affair was PROBABLY over, but not over YET. It was not really OVER until she felt reality sink in and she started experiencing withdrawal symptoms (depression) the following day.
In fact, I might even be a bit premature in accepting the authenticity of the death certificate. Yesterday I caught her trolling for e-mail from the OM.... So perhaps a more common answer may be that it can take awhile before you can "know" that it is about to be over.
