If you are having difficulty in your marriage, which is the best route to go to try and resolve things? And why?

Both. Each have their benefits. We did both, though the phone counseling was quite limited. I would have liked to have done more ($$$ big factor).
Posting here at MB is like asking those who have live experience. Phone counseling helps us keep focused with some trained guidance. Less emotion with the counselor. Here on the board you get to see real life results of learned applications.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
I did both which was very helpful. Steve and Jenifer can help you focus whereas on the boards there are many approaches to the same situation. They are really good at finding out how sincere each is to rebuilding, to ask for committments and generally see thru the smoke screen that our emotions play on us because we are so close to the problem
Happy New Year,
D.
