Good idea? Bad idea? How much?
I've always gotten along with his family, but we've never lived close to any of them. I'm not a phone person..so....
But I did talk to his Mom fairly often, whenever she called for my H. We didn't talk much, but I do miss the times we did. When we separated it was offered that I call her whenever I needed to talk about what I'm going through(she's been married several times, finally very happily). I'm not sure I feel comfortable with THAT level of communication, but I hate to lose touch--especially right now. I just wrote her a letter letting her know how I'm doing, and enquiring after that part of the family. I did not mention my husband our our marriage once. I'd like to keep the contact up, depending on what her response is like (warm or cool). Do you think this is a good or bad idea (I do not plan on involving her in my relationship with her son)? I was thinking every two months or so I'd send a short note. If we do end up divorcing I will probably taper off, but while we're still married, I'd like to still be part of the family, if that makes sense. I just do not want my contact to be considered any kind of manipulation.
His dad..lives in the same town I do. They are the ones who took our larger dog in when we separated. We spent a lot of time with them during my husband's visit and they have always made me feel welcome and comfortable. I just wrote them a short note thanking them for their hospitality and letting them know that I appreciate them making me feel comfortable and how much fun I always have at their place. Again, did not mention my husband at all. I would like to actually see them once a month or so since they live close by and they have our dog (she will have her home there permanently, regardless of outcome of marriage). I miss my dog <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="images/icons/frown.gif" /> , but she is very happy there.
So are these pretty good limits to set on my contact with them unless they initiate it more frequently? I do not want to seem manipulative, but I don't want to be part of the past until that happens for sure.
If my husband objects (I don't think he will), should I respect his wishes?
