This was an outrage at that time. The girl's father insisted she'd tell him who the father of this child was. She refused at first so her lover wouldn't get into trouble, and finally told her father that it was the man living at the hut near the village.
This man was a wise man, who had chosen to live his life in peace and service. He had nothing to do with the girl's pregnancy, of course, but she'd rather have her father's anger directed towards this stranger that towards her lover.
The father immediately went to the man in the hut, accompanied by several other villagers, all screaming and making a big scene.
"You made my daughter pregnant!"
The man simply replied in a gentle tone, "Oh, is that so?"
The father exclaimed: "I will have nothing to do with this child or with you! So when the baby is born, you'd better take care of it!" and left.

When the baby was born a few months later the girl's father took it to the man in the hut.
"There, you'll have to take care of your own problem," he snared.
"Oh, is that so?" the man replied gently.

He took good care of the child. He took it with him when he went to work in the fields, fed it, held it, took care of it like any good mother or father would.

A few months later the daughter missed her baby so terribly that she finally confessed everything to her father. The father couldn't stay angry for long with his daughter and he agreed upon her marrying the babies' father.

Now the girls' father and all the other villagers went to the hut of the man. They were deeply ashamed of how they had been treating him these last months, while he had in fact done nothing to deserve such a treatment.

"I'm so sorry.. all a mistake.. my daughter wants to take care of baby and marry the father..." the girl's father stambled.
"Oh, is that so?" the man in the hut said gently and returned the baby to the girl."

The villagers probably had a big wedding party afterwards but that's not the point .

I am printing it an putting it in my wallet, then I'm calling OW to see if I can pick up the bambinos a couple of days early so my dh can have a few extra days with our littlest loves. I'd been debating on whether or not to offer because I loathe to speak to her some days, while others I don't care one way or another. Your post reminded me of one of the reasons I stayed with dh (besides that I love him so much I could burst sometimes)....the babies need me...they need a stable mom figure in their little lives...'sides we're all missing them!

Thank you again! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />
