My dad is a very very dominant person. I've worked hard to get out from under his thumb but it has been difficult and I'm not 100% there yet. I swore up and down that I would never ever ever ever EVER ask him for money.
But..
I want to go to school again. And I want to start as soon as possible. In the spring if I can. I owe my last school some money and can't get my transcripts (which I need to apply to a new school) until that is paid off. That will be paid off in decemeber, but that is likely too late for applications for the spring semester. I did ask my husband to help me with it, and he agreed, but I don't know when he'll be able to get the money either.
Well, I did it. I bit the bullet and asked my dad for the money and he agreed to my payment plan. I know this may sound small to some of you, but I am so proud of myself for asking him.
I have NO idea how I am going to do the school thing after June if my husband and I divorce. I see myself having to move to a mobile home..another thing I swore I'd never do...but this will be so much better for me in the end, even if I have to lower my standards for awhile in the meantime.
It's very unfortunate that on-campus housing for families is $200 more than my current rent
Oh well...I know I need to have a plan, and I don't have one yet. But for now, this is a big boost.

here's your round of applause {} {} {} {} {} {} {} {} {} {}
once you get into school i'm sure by the time june comes around it will be a lot easier to keep your foot in the system. i remember having to have my school loan paperwork in by the end of march for the fall semester and the school was able to wait for the school loan checks to come in in the fall. you never get it before you actually start school (federal student loans). good luck and keep us posted
LOL though the "Clap" in your title almost seems like something else if you know what i mean. [ September 23, 2004, 02:39 PM: Message edited by: roughroad ]

Good job Maddy! I know how hard that can be, I have the same problem with my dad. Hang in there and keep taking those steps to move forward.

MaddyK, Doing the hard things are the moments that make us feel proudest and is what defines our character.
The easy thing would be to not ask your Pop for help. You didn't want to ask him.
The easy thing would be to use that as an excuse for why you couldn't get back to school.
It is always easy to find a reason not to do something. But it is those fine qualities in human beings that make them find reasons to do something. Even when the things we may have to do aren't necessarliy pleasurable.
You chose not to do the easy thing, not to make an excuse to sit down on the curb and be a victim of circumstance.
You are controlling your own life. Doing things not because they are easy, but because they are hard. Anybody can do the easy thing.
And even if you never ever realize any financial or professional gain from it, the act was still worth it because it shows the kind of person you are.
MaddyK I am proud of you. And will give you a pat on the back, ... if you'll let me.

Maddy, start looking into the possibility of a Pell Grant. I don't know if you would qualify for one as a married woman (The grant is income based), but if things don't work out for you and your H, you might could qualify for one on your own. I know some single women who have gotten a Pell Grant, and it was enough that they could even pay for child care while they went to school.
