Resilient,
Due to a couple of bad dating experience I had years ago one with a superior in my field and another with a friend, I will never date anyone I work with again. Because if the relationship ends you will still have to work with him, and someone will have hurt feelings...very bad conditions to have at work.
I dated a superior whom I have to have almost weekly contact with still, and it almost caused me to change jobs. Not because he treated me badly after it ended but because I had such a hard time in meetings with him. I started having severe panic attacks before the meeting and a few times had to beg a coworker to take my place. It was horrible.
Right before I dated him I dated a man in the next office from me, (different company) but I had to see him every single day in the building and he refused to even say hi to me (he was hurt because I ended it) as I liked this guy alot before dating him, this destroyed our friendship and also made it very uncomfortable seeing him at work.
I wouldn't date anyone at work if I were you, the relationship envariably ends but you have to keep going to work, and so does he. Could be bad.
Just explain to him that you have a strong personal policy of not dating people you work with and that if you ever change jobs you would love to have dinner with him, but for now it is out of the question.

My male coworkers have a saying that I thought was very very wise, in addition to being hilarious:
"never get your honey in the same place you get your money."

That has always been my rule of thumb. If the relationship goes bad, which they often do, you not only have a relationship failure on your hands, but you can jeopardize your career.
For me, Jo, I wouldn't take the risk as it is now. If you find that you really are attracted to him, and it seems promising, I would explore transferring to another group.
Good to see ya, sister! [ October 31, 2004, 12:55 PM: Message edited by: MelodyLane ]

Oh my gosh Mel, you have no idea how much I like this and I need it so badly in my office. I am going to use this on the BB where the staff will see it daily. (Of course I'll have to take it down before any brass come to town to "visit" as it is not corporate approved but so what, I'm going to post it up
LOVE IT!

I remember my mom use to spray Aquanet [that and some laquer product] on her BIG hair and wrap it in toilet paper before she went to bed at night. [ October 31, 2004, 01:31 PM: Message edited by: Resilient ]
