I know the Infidelity diet is one thing that usually happens. Been there done that.

I had been thinking about how many changes I have made on the inside. I thought that it was time to change something on the outside. I was going to go for a really short funky haircut. BUt, that was too drastic. I am a big chicken.

Sooooo, I decided to go from my normal, blonde-since-birth to strawberry blond. Big risk for me. BIG OOPS, I now have ORANGE HAIR

OMG!! LMAO, I look ridiculous! And I have to live with it for at least a month.

Anyone else made some "improvements"? Perhaps that didn't quite turn out?

This was not one of my better decisions. I wish I had a camera to share this sight. I look like a pumpkin!

Got up this morning and washed my hair a few times. Still look like a pumpkin. DD laughed her face off.

Where is a huge hat when you need one? I have to got work with this! Good thing I work away in a very small office. I don't want to scare anyone.

The good news is that reds fade VERY quickly. I keep my hair very short and is a light red/brown base with blonde highlights. I have to have it cut and colored every 4-5 weeks. One thing I have found is that some shampoos wash the red out quicker. You might want to call your hairdresser to see what shampoos might help.

If you can't change it for a while, have fun with it. Did you do it yourself? Some things are best left to the professionals.

LOL!

You might check with your hairdresser on 'reversing' this or something to get back to your color.

There's something called a 'malibu' that my hairdresser mentioned one time (that I would need if a 'color' job went bad).

Maybe a 'malibu' is the answer for you?

Take care.

You can either bleach them until they are white (high % bleaching fluid) and then use a tonér with the color you prefer or you can tone them darker.

Either way you will have to "treat them" with a hairtreatment regularely now. If they still are "redish/orangish" after bleaching use a "Silver toner" that will help get rid of the redish pigments.

Hope that might help a little. But I'd get this done at the hairdressers because it is tricky! So be carefull or you'll have "spagetti" on your head.

yes, I'm a Hairdesser.

FAA, funny you should mention....

After Dday I let my hair grow longer, then I got it cut a little shorter, decided to bleach it out and go blonde and have more fun!

Well, I didn't get the right results with the first bottle of lightener, so I waited 24 hours and got "super" lightener. Still didn't look right after the recommended time, so I left it on longer, and went to sleep watching TV

My poor hair was SOOOOO orangy and stiff and dry. I had to go to work the next morning so I styled it with a curling iron...I looked like some bleached blonde thing from the 60's. I kept trying to tone it down but by now my hair wouldn't take ANY color.

Finally bit the bullet the next weekend and went to a salon and had it fixed. I'm still blonde but not orange! That's the only suggestion I have. I'm a big "do it yourself" person. I can't believe I went to work for a whole week like that. LOL

Funny you should bring this up...

Two weeks ago I go get my hair highlighted for the first time ever...never even colored my hair before...was a little scared but then excited. My hairdresser said we would go subtle this first time...picked a new "do" also. It turned out great. It was quite subtle, was thinking I could even go a little more next time.

After a few days I notice it is getting lighter all over...don't know what to make of it...sometimes I noticed sometimes not...since I'd never done this before it crossed my mind that maybe it takes a little time to see the full effects ???

Last week my daughter said "please tell me you haven't been using that hairspray in your bathroom". ??? Yes, I have.

She said "that bottle has peroxide in it".

Luckily I don't have to use hairspray everyday..and stopped before I was too blonde!!

It is definately lighter, but not too bad! And, since I had never colored my hair before but had just got brave the previous week, I was open minded to something new....

Sometimes I laugh about it...it could have been worse!!

Thank you all.
Brit's Brat. I am counting on it fading. Oh, please let it fade!

TMCM: Gee thanks, I look like a reincarnated punker wannabe! HEY! I have an idea.. I'll bet if I soaked my hair in some of the coffee, it might tone it down. ROTFLMAO. With my current IQ, I'd probably use the steamed milk!

scared2try67: Okay now I feel better. Green? How long did that last? Did you have to go to work like that? And Tide? OMG, I just choked on my drink!

HurtingCarol: Oh yeah. It was a do it yourselfer. Yes, I should have left it for the professionals. Hey, this was an experiment in spontaniety that went horribly wrong!

stillsosad: Mailbu, eh? I will have to put in an emergency call.

blondblossom ; DO you make house calls to Canada? Spaghetti??? NOw I am scared.

TooOld4This: Oh I see you feel my pain. Yup I went to work today. THere were a few double and triple takes. But everyone was too polite to ask what the heck happened. So, I told them. Then they felt free to laugh. It is funny. Butt ugly but still funny.

marriedandlonely: Yes, I know what you mean. I am not too much in the experimentation with my hair kind of woman. I think I will go back to that. Peroxide in the hairspray. Whew that could have been a lot worse.

Okay now I feel much better. I think maybe I need to get a picutre taken to put up next to the one that I already have on the MB photo site. You know with a caption like :Before and After she lost her mind.

I think this will take a MAJOR overhaul!

BUt, at least my hair isn't falling out... Yet! And, I have learned never to use that brand either. One of the other problems is that even though my hair is just past my shoulders, I have a LOT of it. And the brand, Hydrience, Tahitian Blonde, didn't have enough to saturate my hair. I ended up having to add some water to try and cover all of the blonde! It is still quite Stripey. OMG, I am still laughing! Scared myself a couple of times when I walked past a mirror.

THere is an upside... It could have been worse, I could have gotten a tattoo. I love them but the idea of something that permanent on a "mature" woman like me is a big "NO!!!" Gravity is no longer my friend.

well, one time when trying something new with my hair i deciced to try red streaks. i have light blonde hair. does anyone see whats coming? i ended up with bright pink streaks. add that to my nails had been painted black and everyone at work kept asking me do you know your hair is pink? what are you some kind of goth girl? then i had to go to dd's school for an appointment she neglected to tell me about. imagine me trying to talk seriously with her teacher and principal with pink streaks and black nails. my manager at work still brings up my hair dont. "when are you going goth again? i liked your pink streaks!"

Hey FAA,

Oh do I ever feel your pain!!

Shortly after d-day, I started getting my dark hair colored & highlighted. After the 3rd or 4th time having it done at the salon, I was thinking to myself that it didn't look that "difficult" to do.

Revlon had just come out with those double-process color & highlighting home kits, so I thought I would give it a shot and save some money.

I had H help me (first mistake!).
Could not get highlights "thin" - they were "chunky".
Highlights took longer than expected, increasing the processing time.

When it was done, I started to dry my hair, excited to see the results.

As I looked in the mirror, I was shocked at what I saw....
Where were the sexy, subtle, carmel highlights that I was expecting?

Apparently they were hiding under the huge BUTTERNUT SQUASH that somehow was planted on the top of my head!!

This was on a sunday evening.

There was NO WAY that I was going to work looking like that! ( I am the only female in my department)

I called in "sick" the next morning and then called the best salon in my town, which normally has a 2-week waiting list, and begged for an appointment.

Luckily they took pity on the "Butternut Squash Girl" and got me in immediately.

I went to work the next day with no one but family knowing the real cause of the previous day's "illness".

Some things are just better left to the professionals...

I tip my colorist very well after that experience!

Take Care,
Shelle

Shelly3 and ShellBelle: Thanks for sharing!

It feels so great to be able to laugh about something. All this intensity is just impossible to live through without some laughter to bring something "normal" into our lives.

I just had an image of all of us do-it-yourselfers standing beside each other for a photo.

That is an image that would be burnt forever into everyone's mind! LMAO

i would like to extend a thank you to all you do it yourselfers.......i am a corrective colorist by trade....ive dont it for 20 yrs.....have had to leave the consult room to check on something more than once....laughed so hard i think i broke something once!

first off----your a natural blonde? before this did you have any color in your hair?

second.....since i do not use store stuff is the stuff you used a peroxide based color...in other words did you mix two things together from the box?

third----what type of hair do you have...thin, fine ,course, thick, wavey, straight?

i may have a few ideas for you----please do not just bleach this out or let anyone do that to you either.....that is a old way to correct color and not allways neccesary. more damage than good and the new color will never hold so some colorist do this to keep you comming back. (i hate that)

i am glad to hear your laughing about it....some of the things ive seen and heard people do just crack me up......

Nikko.
"first off----your a natural blonde? before this did you have any color in your hair?" Yes, I am a natural blonde. But, no, I had lightened it a couple of months ago and did not like the look of the darker roots.

second.....since i do not use store stuff is the stuff you used a peroxide based color...in other words did you mix two things together from the box? I read the box. There is no peroxide. But there is Ammonium Hydroxide. Yes, I had to mix two things together. The package says permanent colour.

third----what type of hair do you have...thin, fine ,course, thick, wavey, straight? I have fine, porous, on the dry side, a little bit wavy, hair. LOTS of it. And I mean LOTS of it. When I put it in a ponytail, it is about as big as a tennis ball.

Yes, I can certainly picture having to leave the room to laugh when you see some of the do-it-yourselfer colours. Like Me!

I also have very sensitive skin. So, too many chemical have caused a very bad reaction. Blisters, icky sores, etc when I have had a perm, etc. EEEWWW!

I am defintely a sight! But it is really funny to me. THank goodness.

ok---if your gonna let a professional fix this there are things they can do other than bleach. what you used is a peroxide based color. if there is ever a question----if the product has the ability to lighten hair it is a peroxide based color. if it can only darken or blend grey----not.

most corrective colorists have product that will open the cuticle and allow the color to fade out....call and ask. then tell them in no uncertsin terms do you want a chemical lifter to be used. they will know the product im talking about---it gets put on and put under a dryer for a bit of time.....if they havent a clue---hang up and call the next salon.LOL

it may not remove it totally but you may end up being the color you wanted to begin with! the biggest thing i always told people is i will fix it if i can---but i will not damage you further in the process.(not everyone liked that answer----but certain things cannot be undone without damaging the hair further. as in---yes i can get it to that color---which bag would you like to carry it home in???)

ask away anything you want.....i will try to be as helpful as i can.
