So I was thinking of a book.......Remember I am currently unemployed and looking for ways to take care of my family. So combining what I already know giving myself a challenge, I was thinking of doing a book.
Here's my idea, let me know what you all think (your opinions are greatly appreciated, remember radical honesty is the best policy so valid criticism is ok ):
Title: Journey Through Our Experiences
This book is compiled of various experiences we go through in our lives. They can be happy, sad, memorable, life-changing, horrific, ecstatic or just a good story. Each of these experiences have touched our lives in some significant way. Now these experiences do not have names. They may have general locations but they will help us see that many of our loves and fears are shared by many. It is hoped that some of these experiences can help each of us learn and grow into better and better persons. There is always something good to learn.
'A wise man learns from his mistakes but a wiser man learns from the mistakes of others.' Maybe there should be a place for wise sayings also. I know this has helped me guide my journey thus far.
So in the spirit of sharing, I would like to present: Journey Through Our Experiences
7 Categories: Happy, Sad, Life-Changing, Horrific, Ecstatic, A Good Story and Helpful Wise Sayings.
So what do you all think? Sound interesting? Now the experiences w/b from anyone who would want to contribute. Short 1 page stories with defined categories.
I am jazzed. Hm..... sticking my neck out here a bit eh?
Now I asking for novels or true confessions..... not even asking for names, though sometimes places do have an impact. More like how hearing the stories of others can sometimes impact us to make positive changes or prevent us from making big blunders. If they are helpful to us, wouldn't it be great to share what we can with others?
Ok, now I will wait for your valuable opinions. BTW, this idea can go off in many directions so give me your best shots.
Mahalo, L. ps: This is not neccessarily MB, R or M related but it c/b, if so, annominity w/b required. [ January 13, 2005, 03:10 PM: Message edited by: Orchid ]

Love the idea Orchid. BTW, you were the first person on MB to post to me. I will never forget that. I would be happy to share.

Question: Does the italicized parts make a good intro? If not, what improvements or suggestions would you make?
BTW, since this w/b a collaborated effort, then proper recognition w/b be due to all involved right? Can't make promises now but know that a good deed should not go unrewarded.
Now I need to take all interested parties off line since this thread is to ask input/opinions only.
What's a good limit? 100 pgs? Cover design? Any other ideas?
My addy: mborchid2@yahoo.com
Mahalo, L. ps: Mods, let me know if this is not MB savy. I don't want to break policy here. Just had an idea.

Thanks for the compliment. I do enjoy helping people. Not sure how to go about this coaching thing and always afraid I might want t/d the choking thing after hearing some of these stories - just kidding.
My SIL (& best friend) says the same. I just called her to tell her about this idea and she is jazzed.
I will definitely keep your words in mind. They really mean a lot to me.
This book idea is a simple one. SIL & I already have an idea for book 2! LOL!! "Smart things kids say and Dumb things parents do". Well it's all still on the drawing board.
take care, L.

Orchid,
This is a fine idea! How about including some poems in it also?
Anyway, I'd be happy to chip in a story about my daughter's heart surgery and how it really changed the way that I view a lot of things in my life.

Andrew and Dani,
Poems are a lovely idea. Make sure when you e-mail you identify which book you want to be in. All this stuff is happening real fast. LOL!!!
Keep me balanced and grounded ok?

Orchid,
Thinking about your book made me think of one of my favorite lines from a Shakespeare play. It's actually a song - from Twelfth Night, I think.
The last part of it goes like this:
"Trip no further, pretty sweeting, journeys end in lovers meeting - every wise man's son doth know."
For some reason, that idea of love being the ultimate desitnation really resonates with me. Perhaps it's one to explore in yoru book somewhere? every wise man's son doth know."

G'morn FR and Andrew,
Glad you like the idea FR. Look forward to see what you send.
Andrew, wow..... while I have to admit Shakespear was not one of my favs, gotta say that I would want to know what "every wise man's son doth know."
It is literature that makes one ponder that I am shooting for....... the kind of simple writing that has meaning and makes us take a take good stock of ourselves and make positive changes. In a simple way. As if our grandparents or someone we look up to would talk to us.
My grandmother used to tell us stories about her experiences......could make a novel out of it. That's what I am searching for. She has been gone for 20 years now and I miss her dearly. Seems like our generations are missing out on all that hidden wisdom from our past.
Now many of us are getting up in years but are we really as wise as we s/b? Hm...... if not what are we passing to our future generations?
I have already worked on the dedication piece. Now contemplating on the rest of it. I definitely need guidance here. This is a whole new horizon for me and am a bit scared of what it will take to make it all come together.
Thanks again for your support. Boy, this is certainly been therapeutic for me too!

I wasn't complementing you. Just stating facts. You have an instinct for calming anger, and rousing passivity when needed and you have walked this walk yourself.
Check out the SYMC site you can see how you can start to train as a marriage coach.
You make good money, and get the satisfaction of helping people avoid some of the pain you endured.
And of course that doesn't preclude writing a book !
oddly, I look at my own story and I am CERTAIN theres a screenplay in there. Love , tragic death, betrayal and reconciliation. Wow.

Totally great Idea! Your wisdom, experience and writing style really could combine to make a much needed book. Check out this book for tips in writing non-fiction. Can't wait to read it! dlc
