I am going to make this unabashed declaration, Happy Birthday to me!

Fifty years ago, on a bright, sunny Father's Day, just like today, I was born. After 4 sons, what a great Father's Day gift a bouncing baby girl was. Today, on my birthday, I will have the wonderful opportunity to be with my 4 brothers, my little sister, most of their spouses, a sprinkling of nieces, nephews, a couple of my niece's babies, my mom and 2 out of my 3 kids. This afternoon, I'm on my way to a 3-day family reunion in the mountains. I've put 4 bottles of champagne in my portable cooler. Mom is bringing the cake.

Am I feeling old! NO, NO, NO! I feel the wonder and beauty and humor of life around me. I don't have a lot of wrinkles. I have almost no gray in my curly, blonde hair. Not only can I touch my toes but I can put my palm to the floor with locked knees. I take no medication and have never had surgery. Okay, there's a few more pounds and that extra chin. Yeh, I'm a little stiff some mornings. Let's not talk about those veins on my legs or hands. I remain an optimist. I plan to live to the point where being 50 will seem like it was "so young".

A couple years ago, when WH turned 50, it was like a dark cloud decended upon our house. He went into a deep, dark funk all day. By coincidence, it was the day of our annual town celebration. On that late summer night, there was a free dance with a great band at the parking lot a block from our neighborhood. I would have considered it my own personal party but WH refused to attend and spent the evening glued to the computer. (Boy, don't I wished I had a keylogger that night!) WH made our lives miserable that night. Couldn't be jollied out of his mood for anything. He could not even bear to celebrate his birthday until the next day. I suppose I should have seen the red flags popping up everywhere. I do wish that I had taken the initiave and gotten us into some kind of counseling then.

No pity party today. I am me. I will not be in denial of what I am. So, I'm ancient? I have value and worth. Happy birthday to me.

See you'all in a few days.

Happy Bday gg!!!!!!!

Sounds like a great day for your family.

And btw, 50 is the beginning of womanhood IMO. A beautiful, sensual, carefree woman who has something to give.

What could be sexier?

I was flipping channels last night and caught some older model who trying to land a job. She was interviewing with some agent. In the part I heard, she said, "You know, 40 is the new 25."

So, I'm thinking is 50 the new 30?

Happy Birthday Grape!

We celebrate birthdays for a whole week so here's your virtual birthday gift (you'll have to unwrap it and see for yourself if it's what you wanted, but it's not a new car)!

Cheers!
