....Orchid, how about Italian sausage soup with garlic bread for dinner and chili dawgs for lunch?!

Sounds like a recipe for a heartburn evening. Got Pepto?

Glad to hear you still have your Texas humor still 'bout ya'all.

Let us know how we can help. What happened to those stranded alongside the roads? Haven't seen any news clips about them, just been told the gas trucks were on their way.

Was the traffic out of the hurricane path?!??! Sorry if those are 'ignorant' questions...... just did breakfast a couple of hours ago..... so the day is still young for us.

Out here, there was a couple of planes hit by lightening and 1 coconut trees struck by lightening and burst into flames. I didn't see it on the news, that's what my mom told me. Then there's the 2 helicopters on Kauai where 1 crashed with 3 deaths and 3 survivors. The 2nd also had trouble but landed safely..... originally it was reported that lightening c/b a factor.... not sure yet. Then we had flash flood warnings on the opposite side of this island. So far, our area just say a few sprinkles of rain but whatever the emergency system saw on their screens was enough to call out for a flash flood warning last night. Better safe then sorry, right?

Orchid, there are still HUNDREDS stranded from Corrigan to Lufkin we are hearing on the news here. We are all puzzled why this isn't on the cable news...

Alreadycrazy, here is what my dad said:

"Rita was a Sissy
Rita was heading into Texas and saw all the "Don't Mess with Texas" signs and she hauled [censored] to LOuisiana. What a Sissy and she had all the press coverage."

lol

That's what I figured. Haven't seen it yet..... will watch later. It was scary thinking some of them had to weather out all that wind and rain in their cars and what would happen if they couldn't open their power windows.

MANAPUA!??!?!

1. Locals love to "grind," as they call eating, and there is a lot to enjoy. [color:"blue"]Manapua, a steamed bun filled with Chinese barbecued pork;[/color] saimin, a Japanese noodle soup; malassadas, Portuguese sugared donuts and pipikaula, Hawaiian-style jerked beef, are all popular snacks. If you're feeling adventurous, try Spam musubi, a slice of teriyaki-flavored Spam fried and wrapped sushi-style with rice. It's more than popular--Hawaii consumes five million pounds of Spam every year, the most in the nation.

Manapua comes steamed (white bun) or baked (golden bun) styles. It is filled with choices of chicken or sweet char sui (pork). Can't remember the other type of filling.

It is almost a quick meal in itself w/o the veggies. Maybe there is a veggie one....never tried it. The baked buns are a bit on the sweet side while the steamed ones have a small tangy kick to them. Not sure why, that's just how they make it.

Used to be what we would take back with us to the mainland whenever we visited. It was an island treat.

It may take several tries to acquire a taste for local food. Because they are an infusion of many cultures. What we eat here is often soo mixed up, the poor tourists, kids and even some adults get confused as to which type of food they are eating. Ex: Koren restaurant serving Teriyaki and sushi on the menu, while a Japanese restaurant service Filipino, Chinese and Koren dishes all the while sitting on a tamtami mat with a Japanese atomosphere. Crazy or what?!?!?! LOL!!

I used to spend my summers on Oahu when I was a teenager...we were always getting manupua on the way home from the beach everyday...I just remember absolutely loving it.

I remember that the McDonald's in our complex carried Saimin!! I thought that was the funniest thing.

Guess what's coming next, this time in the Atlantic. . .

Mel, I had to laugh when you mentioned what your brother said -- my H said pretty much the same thing right before the storm hit, and we had arrived in Dallas. He said he would be scarred forever if [our city] wasn't completely wiped off the map, LOL. Oh, well!! Commence the scarring!

Orchid, thank you for asking about us. We are safe and sound in Dallas, as FF said. Did you read my post on the traffic? ? It was so astounding we took video of it, and even got some shots of cars just comandeering the other lanes for their own use (without permission). There were plenty of near misses and a few head-on collisions because of this! When, in one of the smaller towns, we stopped to ask a police officer who was parked on the side of the road and chatting it up with a pretty young lady (whose car had overheated) if the authorities had opened both the lanes facing oncoming traffic as northbound lanes, he hooked his thumb through his beltloop and said, "Nope. . . but if you can find a way to stop them, let me know"!!!! Then he effectively dismissed me by turning back to Pretty Woman. Jack*ss!!!

Glad everyone seems well. Houston really dodged a bullet -- even Galveston didn't get it that bad. Poor Beaumont and Lake Charles, LA, though!

On a sober, humble note - God bless Texas - and Texas is blessed by God - and the prayers of her citizens, as well as the people who love them have been answered.

May you recover your homes, and the homes of your neighbors be rebuilt as well, and all be done quickly!

On a humorous note - ML - that little trap was tested as a "legitimate" way to "train" a cat - Timba - the untrainable snit who likes to walk along the back of the sofa and smack us in the back of the heads with her tail when we don't pay her sufficient homage... she soon learned how to step around the shiny parts of the counter, but that first night was definitely a time she was humbled and bested.

The ? that made recovery possible: "Which lovebuster do I do the most that hurts the worst"?

The statement that signaled my personal recovery and the turning point in our marriage recovery: "I don't need to be married that badly!"

If you're interested in saving your relationship, you'll work on it when it's convenient. If you're committed, you'll accept no excuses.
