Today is w/h's birthday. He says he doesn't want any party for him. I asked him if he wants to go out for dinner, he says no. I have gotten him a few things for his birthday, nothing special, I am still looking for a couple of things for him.
Anybody have any ideas how to make his birthday special???
I am lacking for inspiration right now, especially since he doesn't want to go anywhere.

How about a monogrammed Montblanc fountain writing pen.........makes a wonderful classy gift.

Or a nice outfit that is color coordinated!

Thanks for ideas Lemon, I have never heard of that brand of fountain pen.

Melody, thanks for the coordinated clothes idea. Unfortunately, my husband doesn't buy his clothes off the rack, most of his clothes are ordered through Cabella's catalog, his favorite shopping place.
I did order some polarfeece pull overs for him and they came in a few days ago.

Does anyone have a favorite memory of a birthday celebration and what they did?

W/H doesn't want to even celebrate his birthday. I suggested we take his birthday cake over to his mom's facility and celebrate it in her room. He said he didn't want to do that because of his mom's confused state.
My dd is going to have a party for w/h next weekend at her house and celebrate both her husbands and my w/h birthday together.
I don't know if w/h just doesn't want me to do anything for him or everyone in general. It is so hard to know because he still keeps most of his feelings bottled up and has a hard time talking in depth about what bothers him. I don't want to jump to conclusions.
I think I will go to the adult store and buy a really racy outfit and have a personal celebration of his birthday for two.

Uhh ohhh..........as I recall, Cabella's shoping is a secondary risk factor......let me go check.

Yes Lemonman, also w/h drives a truck, likes to hunt;jeans are his pants of choice. If given the choice of doing anything in the world, w/h would choose hunting. The man believes that nobody has enough guns, knives or anything to do with hunting. His favorite music is country. His other passion is collecting boots and shoes. His motto is "You can never have enough shoes or boots."

Wow, KDS...it is safe to say, that your WH seems like the complete ANTITHESIS of me....

Kind of funny....in that case, my recomnendation of a montblanc fountain pen could not have been a worse suggestion....LMFAO...imagine his shock when he unwrapped a $450.00 writing instrument..... Oh boy...sorry, my bad.

In the world of fine writing instruments, what you said above is bordering on sacreligious....please take it back, or I will be forced to take action....

It is a pen company and a mighty fine one at that....

Back to the original question, perhaps, get your FWH some chewing tobacco (does he do this?) and a gift certificate to Cabellas, and let him pick out his own stuff. Yeah, it is pretty unoriginal, but your WH strikes me as the kind of guy who is very hard to shop for....just my hunch.

Also, if you are in recovery, why would your WH be so oppossed to a nice dinner out to celebrate a milestone age?

What gives? Is he depressed and still in WD?

Dear Lemon, that is a great idea of gift certificate. About your question of him going out, since the I don't love you speech, we have not gone out to eat. I don't know why he feels that way. He doesn't want a big deal made out of his birthday, and I guess that would be making a big deal.
Tonight we celebrated his birthday at home with a lobster salad, bread and his favorite pie, coconut cream. Entertainment consisted of me wearing an adorible playboy style dress, cuffs, necktie, and of course the famous bunny ears. He laughed when he saw me in it, and we had a rousing good time.
The best birthday party for two I have gone to in years.
