I am on Lexapro 20 mgs. It just does not seem to touch my depression and anxiety anymore. I was reading about Cymbalta and wondered if anyone has any experience with it?

Hi FF, My WH tried Cymbalta earlier this year, and it appeared to cause an increase in his "obsessive" behavior. (He has been diagnosed with depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder) so he discontinued it after three months. He has also tried Zoloft, Celexa, Serzone and Wellbutrin but has either felt that they didn't help or they've had some side effect that caused a problem, so may just be him, not the medicine ! Our Dr. had good things to say about Cymbalta, so might be worth a try ! Best Wishes- Slammed

Ok, I have tried them all and I'm currently on Cymbalta.
Cymbalta works on Seratonin and Norepinephrine. The good part about Cymbalta for me is that it allows me to be me. It is the first time I have been able to calm down my OCD anxiety, lift up minor depression, and still feel like me. Ok, me being me without the obcessive compulsive thoughts and feeling like I was hopeless. That is who I use to be when I was younger. And the great part about Cymbalta, no SF side effects that I have found, and no weight gain. Only side effect you have to watch out for is blood pressure increase, but I'm on BP medication anyway and haven't had a problem. Medication range is 20mg to 60mg, because of my OCD I'm on 120mg....OCD requires more than the normal dosage, but it takes a psychiatrist working with you to make that determination. If you have any questions just ASKME....

ASKME and slammed1, thanks for responding. I am going to discuss a med change with my doctor. ASKME, what you mentioned about the anxiety and depression is what I read on Medscape about Cymbalta. Thanks.

Celexa is an SSRI drug that works on Seratonin. With any of the SSRI type drugs initially it may take a week or two for the body to get use to the drug. This means you might experience some minor nausea, insomnia, dizziness, etc. until the body adjusts. Some people don't feel anything at all. A lot of times it depends on what dosage the doctor starts you at and how he increases the dosage. It may take 3-4 weeks before you start to realize the full benefit of the drug.
As far as side effects, Celexa is probably one of the better SSRI drugs when it comes to side effects. Other than the ones mentioned above, which are usually temporary, Celexa may cause some slight sexual side effects, but it's typically less than many of the other ssri's. Weight tends to remain more stable with Celexa. Studies show that overall there is an average of some slight weight loss. Some people experience a little bit of sleepiness, but they eventually overcome it.
Oh, forgot to mention for anyone interested that Lexapro is an isomer of Celexa.
