Weaver, I've just finished an unputtable down book called Voyageurs by Margaret Elphinstone. It's set in 1809 and the setting is in and around Mackinac Island and upper Michigan.
It's just a wonderfully well written story about a very interesting time of Canada/America's history and I know you'll just love it.

Mel, it's like having the book brought to life (apart from the suspension bridge LOL. I don't think that was there in 1809).
The woman who wrote the book did wonderful research and her descriptions of the area are AWESOME.

Jen, my pictures don't even come close to doing it justice. It is so beautiful and majestic. Once you get off the main drag [in your horse drawn buggy since there are no motorized vehicles allowed on the island] it is like walking back into the early 1800's. All the buildings, homes are super old Victorians. The old fort is up on the hill overlooking it all. There are horses and buggies everywhere. It is just a fabulous place to spend time!

For any one reading and wondering about the use of "da"... Yoopers don't make the "th" sound very well for some reason it comes out sounding like "da". I have never figured out why this is, but just so you know I personally have no trouble with it...my "th's" always come out perfectly. <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Mel when you get up here in the spring try to get up to Whitefish Point (where the Edmond Fitzgerald sank) to the Shipwreck Museum and to the bird observatory...I hear the annual bird migration is just awesome (the museum is worth the visit alone though), people come from all over the world to watch the migrations... from the eagles and hawks to the songbirds.

We do like Whitefish Point and were up there a couple of years ago. I have been wanting to go back to Taquanawhatever Falls; that was one of my faves!

That would be Tahquamenon Falls. The lower falls are a blast...especially watching the Texans try to maneuver a canoe over to the other side...that is way fun! And I believe God blessed Texas because he had to... Lord knows it needed it. <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
