Hi, I don't post often, so most of you don't know me all that well, but I thought I'd share some news anyway.
I got a job closer to home!!
I was a SAHM when my H left me, I did some subbing (i'm a teacher) and then alst summer got a job mid-summer, but 45 miles away, and I need to be there at 7:00am. SO this school year I've been up at 5, kids upat 5:30, all in the car at 6 to head to sitter and work, off between 3-4, home by 5, kids in bed by 6:30.
Yesterday I got a job in my own town, with a 15 minute commute! YIPPEE FOR ME!!

That is super! I know your entire family will benefit. Did you have to give up anything (lower pay, insurance, different job level) when you took this new job? I hope not! You and the kids should go do something fun to celebrate. You deserve it after the last year you've had.

Avondale, No, I didn't have to give up anything job wise. It is a different job, but still teaching special ed. My only "give up" is the best daycare provider in the world. She has been amazing, and I will be bawling Monday morning when I tell her I got the job and I'll be in my own town and won't be using her anymore. She understands my need to be home.
Cinderella and Immovingon, Thanks so much. Yes, this will make my life incredibly easier next year.
Only 4 more teaching days until summer!

kk, I teach middle school special ed. I"ve done it all from full integrating to severe/profound. This past year was resource, and the job I'm taking here is self-contained life skills. The program is already set up with an espresso business, recycling business, and some other projects. I'm pretty excited both about the job and the short commute to work.
With my daughter starting kindergarten this year, i really wasn't looking forward to having all school activities 45 minutes away. THis REALLY is the best thing that could happen to me.

That's so fabulous. You just added a whole hour to your disposable time. If you're like me, you're already filling that hour up with projects. Resist! Save that hour for nothingness. That way, you can read to your children or yourself. Sleep. Watch TV or, heavens above, paint your toenails. I never have time to paint my toenails, so that's one thing I'd do.
I love it when we all start really succeeding after divorce. We often grow in such unexpected directions. And once we start growing, and doing, good things start happening. It's amazing.

GG, I am definitely NOT filling the time was anything in particular.
I will be getting home about the same time every day, because even though I was an hour away, I also got off an hour earlier. What will be nice is not getting up before 5, and letting my kids sleep in past 5:30. So they won't have to go to bed at 7:00 ( another 1/2hour with them) and we can all sleep in about another hour in the morning. I don't mind a 5:30-6:00 wake up time, but I really didn't enjoy before 5, and there should be a firm rule against children up before six!!
I told both my principals today, and while they jokingly told me they hated me, and would never accept my resignation, they were both supportive of my situation and gave me the best professional compliments I've ever received. That sure was nice, too.
Only 3 more days until summer vacation!!
