His WW is going overseas with OM, but the passport is in his possession. I don't see anything illegal about making it disappear. I would shred her passport if it were me. Opinions?

I would not.
If it were me my CHILDENS passports would make a discrete exit to an undisclosed location...but I wouldn't go so far as to try to limit another adults ability to leave the country.

I fully understand WHY reachingout would want to do this, so don't get me wrong here but I would be very, very surprised if it wasn't illegal to withhold someone's passport and Pep, I know what you're saying and understand the feelings behind it, but I have a feeling defacing a passport is a criminal offence even if it's by "accident".

I know that Pep, it just bothered me a bit.
I've been googling "withholding passports". It's mainly a human rights issue and a bill was passed in the UK, mainly because of migrant workers being held as virtual slaves, because their passports were being withheld by their employers. I couldn't find anything from the States but something tells me it would be very, very unwise to withhold someone's passport.
It seems to come under "theft of identity" because a passport is classed as an identity paper.
Human rights issues really get me going for some reason.

If she reports the passport lost or stolen, she can get a replacement on an emergency basis very quickly (maybe even 24 hours). I think losing the passport will be an ineffective measure that will turn around and bit him on the assets. I agree about the childrens' passports although WW would probably not be allowed to take them out of the country anyway without BH's notarized consent.

the passport would be shredded by me. hmmm? what passport? gee, I don't know where it is.... shredded in a heartbeat.
and BTW, there is nothing in the law that say you cannot hide car keys or a passport for that matter. it's his house... he can put things whereever he pleases...even her keys or passport. and then he can just forget where they are. I would avoid all that myslef and shred it...no apologiy and no admission on my part. This is war... sometimes there are casualties.

Jen... this issue with his wife cannot be stretched into a human rights issue. It really has nothing in common with migrant workers being forced to stay because their passposts were taken from them.
