Ask Pep..

I'm known for not getting jokes...

I can't believe you LOLed, Mrs. W...

I sooo can't do that at a joke like that...

Takes all kinds..that's what makes the world so SPECIAL...

So do you also laugh at ETHNIC JOKES??

No Mimi, I do not laugh at ethnic jokes-well, except for ones about Greeks, Mr. W is Greek yanno...I also laugh at blonde jokes and I am blonde...I personally find self deprecating humor to be endearing...I often use the phrase, "Hey, don't be sexist, BROADS hate that!"... I can assure you that it's all in good fun...

True to form, Mr. W did LOL when I called and read this joke to him...Life really shouldn't be serious all the time...

Oh yeah, and for FH...Do you know what's brown and red and lying in a ditch?

A BRUNETTE that's told one too many BLONDE jokes! Watch it there buddy!

Mrs. W

P.S. I will give you that I'm not fond of YANKEES makin' Southern jokes...But I typically just remind myself that yankees can be tacky and move on!

Mimi, there's a lot of belittling of wives by husbands, but we do not dare be as open about it !!!! And yes, I do laugh at ethnic jokes, specially the ones about my own ethnic background !!!!!

Mrs W, I disagree with your assumption of Mr W reaction to the joke. I think he will ROTFLOL ! God has a terrific sense of humor, just look around you at what he created!

And I HATE jokes about husbands belittling their wives..and jokes regarding my RACE and my GENDER...

Stereotypes can be very hurtful and painful...

Maybe this has never happened to any of you...

hmmmm....you would prefer perhaps Polish Jokes?

MM, I never heard of West Virginia jokes until I moved to North Carolina.

Mrs. W. - As my wife likes to remind folks, she may be blonde on the outside but she has a brunette brain. (Isn't hair coloring a "wonderfully wondering" thing? (Ouch! That was supposed to be a pun!!!) ???only her hairdresser knows for sure????

btw, the joke that started this thread was told to me by my wife this morning...and I was not at all offended.

Now what was that old saying about what a man really wants for wife...??? Na....that would surely be found to be offensive too.

Get the feeling we all get a bit wound too tight and sensitive sometimes? Another fallout from the "infidelity ride??" Shoot, I guess in retrospect I'd have much preferred her calling me the south end of a northbound horse instead of being quiet and seeking "another" outlet for her feelings.

Triggers...uff dah! I wish we could just stuff them like Roy Rogers did with his Trigger.

Mimi,

I look at jokes two ways...

If it is in fun and jest, then it is usually not offensive to me.

I joke about Marines not being required to have brains all of the time. And they the same about us Army guys. Now, is it we dont respect each other....or really believe what we are saying. No. Why? Because it is a joke. If it were real, it wouldnt be funny!

But, if I have offended you, I would also say that this isnt my intent. Sometimes, with any joke...some people will not like it. So, I do apologize if it has hurt you in any way. The joke was just that...a joke!

I get all of the husband jokes all of the time. The "yes dear" jokes, etc. Doesnt bother me. I know it is a joke. It isnt reality, at least not in my home!

I had never heard of Iowan jokes until I moved to Minnesota. Human nature.

Honestly, I do believe that I laugh at jokes based upon intent...When I know that there is no harmful intent then I laugh...Chris Rock makes a lot of ethnic jokes that I laugh at...If those same jokes were told by someone wearing a KKK cloak then I would not laugh...Matter of perception I believe...

I don't think for one minute that FH was belittling men (himself) when telling the original joke in this thread, so I found it funny...

If Mr. W told a joke about women I would laugh because I KNOW that Mr. W has the utmost respect for women...

Life is 10% what you make it and 90% how you take it...

I've been like this for as long as I can remember..

Some of us are more sensitive than others..

Some of us have been the brunt of such jokes, hurtfully, many times in our past life experiences...

Have you seen the movie CRASH...ethnic and racial stereotypes can be DANGEROUS..and I don't think folks are being oversensitive in recognizing this...

I'm still learning and growing,though...

Honestly, I'm SURPRISED that folks find such things FUNNY..

It's more about ME and who I AM, I guess...

My favorites are the jokes in the New Yorker magazine..I can laugh so hard that tears come to my eyes and my H says: "What's so funny.. I don't get it"...

My favorite movie: FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL..every time I watch it I almost wet my pants..laughing so hard.... and my H and sons have looked at me like I'm NUTS...

All of us have a DIFFERENT SENSE OF HUMOR...

I do think we need to be careful, though, about PROMOTING jokes on a MARRIAGEBUILDING SITE in which spouses are putting each other down...

I thought it was, like Pep said, mildly funny...

I know DH would not have been offended.

The old me would find a reason to be offended.

The new me is saying...

you got anything funnier, lol!

I don't know why this is bugging me so...

But one of my pet peeves is when people do or say something hurtful and then say: "JUST KIDDING"...

Nope....probably would offend someone. It has something to do with 72 virgins.

Do you know why the toothbrush was invented in West Virginia?

Anywhere else and it would have been called a Teethbrush!

Believe it or not, some forgotten esteemed group a few years ago selected this joke as the funniest joke on the planet out of thousands of entries screened for politically correct content and suitability for the masses. Submitted for your approval (or scorn):

Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson go on a camping trip. After a good dinner and a bottle of wine, they retire for the night, and go to sleep.

Some hours later, Holmes wakes up and nudges his faithful friend. "Watson, look up at the sky and tell me what you see."

"I see millions and millions of stars, Holmes" replies Watson.

"And what do you deduce from that?"

Watson ponders for a minute. "Well, astronomically, it tells me that there are millions of galaxies and potentially billions of planets. Astrologically, I observe that Saturn is in Leo. Horologically, I deduce that the time is approximately a quarter past three. Meteorologically, I suspect that we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. Theologically, I can see that God is all powerful, and that we are a small and insignificant part of the universe. What does it tell you, Holmes?"

Holmes is silent for a moment. "Watson, you idiot!" he says.
"Someone has stolen our tent!"

SO, IS THIS FUNNY?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She is in the kitchen preparing to boil eggs for breakfast.
He walks in.
She turns and says,'You've got to make love to me this very moment.'
His eyes light up and he thinks, 'This is my lucky day.'
Not wanting to lose the moment, he embraces her and then gives it his all on
the kitchen table.
Afterwards she says, 'Thanks,' and returns to the stove.
More than a little puzzled, he asks, 'What was that all about?'
She explains, 'The egg timer's broken.'
