NOT SO CLOSET DEAD HEAD!! (waving hippily!)

I followed the Dead when I was a kid for a while. I even went to Alpine Valley in Wisconsin I am the girl with the long hair, long skirt and the dancing. (giggle)

I'm 45yo now and I STILL have long hair, long skirts, and dance!!

Wanna have some fun? Let's go to the BUCKHORN EXCHANGE!!

me? not a bonified deadhead, per se. Just got caught up in the scene due to connections--brother, husband, college friends. I was more of an observer than anything. And, wow, what observing there was!

They will again descend, in June, at Pickle Gulch for the annual get together. Lord help me ...

Faithful, we used to hang at the Buckhorn! It's where my brother and his wife me. Brother known among circles as Captain Dead. He was at Alpine. Did you see him? He was the one with the long curly black hair and the tie dye. I guess you were a twirler girl?

Good God ... the night Jerry died I had to go out and sit in a field with all of them. They brought their guitars and played, He's Gone. Oh, it was sooooo moving!!! (rolling eyes).

Jerry aint dead, he's with Elvis. They run a little dock bar and bait shop on Lake Minnetonka.

Wow, now I am stuck with the permanent mental image of CJ as a Dead Head Twirler Girl.

Last I heard, Elvis was stuck in the Memphis airport. That's what my kids told me. Ya think Jerry's with him? Maybe there hangin' out at the Cheers bar.

Sorry to disappoint ya folks, but Jerry is alive and well living here in the Pacific Northwest. Want proof? Go to my myspace site: www.myspace.com/cjluvsdd There you will see for yourself photographic proof that my Dear Hubby is actually the re-incarnation of Jerry Garcia...or at least a twin brother of a different mother.

In fact, my DH is also a guitar player, and in fact, I am a twirler girl!

Finally and in conclusion, I think I remember your brother, rltraveled. He has a beard, right? Yeah!

Hmm, yeah he prob'ly had a beard at the time.

You should see him now--Mr. Yippie Man with his 3000 sf house, a three car garage and a pile of $$$ in the bank. He's a DINK. Now he attends String Cheese ...

But boy, he sure bi**ches about the "econological footprint" that we must all adhere to (everyone that is, except him). Whines about global warming and all that stuff.

Gotta love the former Deads.

I am by no means a citizen of the Socialist Republic of Boulder, but I also never turned yippie either. We had kids...and kids...and more kids. We home school. And we all live comfortably in a little house by the park with dogs and cats and all kinds of creatures! haha I think I MELLOWED in my old age, but the old "traipse across the country" bug still bites and off we go! I don't have "piles" of money or the soccer mom minivan--I drive a Pathfinder with my tent and folding chairs permanently in the back in case I want to just stop and camp or just stop and enjoy the view somewhere.

Some old dead heads just STAY old dead heads.

Your true and faithful dead head semi-native friend,

CJ

I home schooled for awhile. And I have 2 dogs and 5 cats and 1 ferret. Our dream retirement is to buy a Winnebago and live in it. Everyone thinks we're crazy, but to each his own.

So does any of this make me dead head material? Yikes!

Good afternoon my darling RLT,
I must interject...They are refering to The Buckhorn Exchange - Downtown, I believe you are thinking about the Bucksnort Bar up in evergreen...Which if you didn't know there was a bar up there, you would never venture up that steep dirt road.
I'm enjoying this thread

Heehee~~

Well, the Bucksnort IS a bar...in Evergreen. I get a giggle from the Buckhorn though because of all those dead animal heads on the wall, and the two-headed calf, and the sarsaparilla on tap!

Now, if you prefer to go to Evergreen, could we PUHLEZE stop at the Lil Bear? Oh, I LOVE that place. Good two-finger burgers (two-fingers thick)! Good beer! And some of the best acts in town. I myself am partial to the blues (nothing like a burger, a beer, the blues and a smoky tavern)!

On the other hand, if you want to do some boot skootin' we could head over to the Buffalo Rose in Golden. You won't believe it, but I used to be in a line dancin' group that practiced at the Buffalo Rose. Yeah--once a twirler always a twirler. I don't do the cowboy boots and hat, but I do leather pioneer boots and long skirts--kind of that bohemian pioneer look! haha!

DARN--now I miss home! AND, it's raining over here on the West Coast today!

I been to both the Bucks.

CJ, I once stopped at the Little Bear about 27-28 years ago (Shhhh I was underage) and the band on stage with no ticket or cover charge was Woody Herman and the Thundering Herd. It was great! What a memory.

The Rose is into some pretty heavy rock now. That's a fun place too.

REALLY!!

I can not imagine rock at the Rose. That was the one place I went where I could put on my cowgirl duds. Is Lynyrd Skynyrd going to play there this summer?

Okay--here's an oldie but good for ya? Who remembers "The Valley Highway"?

Never heard of it. When were you here,CJ?

It's growing around here, leaps and bounds. Every nook and cranny is being built on. They're putting a Home Depot up right behind us.

CJ, I still run into a few old timers who will refer to I-25 as the Valley Highway.

Ever go to the Briarwood in Golden.

Think it's time for DD19 and I to go to the Briarwood while it's still half on Wayzilla. Life is good!!

I was there from I think 1984 - 2005. I'm only a fairly recent transplant here to the Pacific Northwest.

(The Valley Highway is the WAAAAAAY old name for I-25)

Do you remember the airport tower that used to be by the Interchange? (I-25/I-70)? How about the ORIGINAL MileHigh Stadium? We were second generation season ticket holders!

Ahhhhhh...the good old days.
