Folks

I thought I'd post the results of the furshlugginer poll as the last act of an ill-starred episode in MB's history.

Quote
Does supporting A-marriages on GQ 2 hurt Vulnerable readers?
Users may choose only one (87 total votes)

* Yes 66 (76%)
* No 21 (24%)

Does supporting A-marriages on GQ2 encourage wayward spouses and OPs ?
Users may choose only one (87 total votes)

* Yes 54 (62%)
* No 33 (38%)

If affair marriages are to be supported on these boards they should:

Users may choose only one (91 total votes)

* Be supported on GQ2 like any other marriage 19 (21%)
* Be supported like any other marriage but have an "affair marriage" warning in thread titles 9 (10%)
* Be supported in a quiet place where they get the help they want from sympathetic posters 25 (27%)
* Not be supported on MB at all 33 (36%)

* Other ( please add your suggestion in a post) 5 (05%)

STATS

Three quarters of those who voted think supporting A-marriages on GQ2 hurts vulnerable readers
While 62% thought that such encouraged waywardly thinking readers

73% of voters want to see affair marriages handled in a different way than at present

My plans for a BP fan club were scuppered by 98% at least because of what people THOUGHT I'd said <img src="/ubbt/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> As if it wasn't hard enough anyway ! tchoh !
Longhorns' ignore list grew by a mighty 814% !
Anger content was at 15% while righteous indignation topped the league with 38% of posts showing that.
21% of words in posts were in CAPTIALs while there were 221 asterisks "*" in Justuss' edits.
Jususs' statement from the mods was copied and pasted 71 times in 12 different threads some even on OTHER BOARDS!
I was accused of wanting to deny help to a-spouses a record 813 times ,but a hanging chad ruined the chances of beating longhorn's ignore list percentage increase.

And that , ladies, gentlemen and men from zog is the poll result. Nothing, of course, will change.

I hereby declare the poll - OVER.

Thank you for your contributions to the discussion. Its been real.

...especially Longhorn...

Bob,
I would normally think this is funny, but I think with this statement, you have gone too far. I mean saying such things about someone is really not needed, is it??

It is always better to attack the issue and not the person.

wouldn't you agree??

please take care Bob.

Anyone expecting human beings to always be rational has obviously never seen the classic British Comedy series, Fawlty Towers.

My most memorable trip to England was a stay at a B&B that could have been the model for Fawlty Towers but was not. That honor goes to Gleeneagle and the cranky and demented owner, a guy named Sinclair. Now the B&B I inflicted myself with had a waiter/flunky who was an exact clone of Andrew Sachs, who played the same role in the series and the owners wife was a near clone of Connie Booth, the maid in the series.

This town was a two or three pub town and also home of the Royal Veterinary Corp Headquarters. The B&B was under renovation and the resulting chaos just escalated the overall quirkiness that nobody would understand unless they had seen a few episodes of Fawlty Towers.

Now it is that I found this one pub, or more exactly was introduced to the pub by a roving MD for Three I. A large party took over a round table and proceeded to drink beer and tell jokes and what not. I dredged up every one I could remember until the waitress, who had to have been 18 but looked 16 wanted a repeat of the punch line and I declined. So the roving MD told her. She blushed, hit him on the arm and raced back to the kitchen.

A few minutes later, this very large lady (not fat) sails up to the table and demands in a raspy voice, "All right now, who at this table has been telling my young girls your filthy jokes?"

Mine host, brave as he was, said, "Wasn't me, it was that bloody yank over there," pointing at me. She gives him the fish eye when I said, " I told the joke, he told the girl." Then she says, Why do I believe him and I don't believe yew." (English accent) He laughs and confesses but cringes.

She goes over to the bar and gets a very large stein of beer, grabs a chair and pushes everyone out of the way and plunks down the stein. She proclaims, "I am so bloody tired of all the same old jokes around here, I want to hear some from the Yank, everybody shut up except him." Looking at me, she said, "Start talking."

I did, wouldn't you?

Now this story is appropo of nothing except it is Friday, Bob is teasing the denizens and I wanted to liven up this thread with a good and true story. Maybe it will lighten his day as well.

Let it be known that this post does not reflect my opinion on this subject. I have only looked at it for how it would be might interpreted and what would actually be summerized from it.

If you were to look at this poll objectively, in addition to what conclusions were posted;

One could also say 64% support handling affair marriages.

That the number who voted represented .018% of all registered members. Which might could conceivably suggest that only .018% are even interested in the subject. (But it probably doesn't)

More than likely it may suggest, based on the response, possible response and the number of active users during the given period; that the 33 people doesn't necessarily make for a significant majority.

And lastly, as many people are aware polls are many times worded to produce a particular predetermined conclusion. Even if it is not intended.

Granted I don't post very much and I have no dog in this fight, and it may upset a few of those with a strong opinion one way or the other, but I think that allows an objective interpretation. I guess that is what mediators are for; their objective opinions.

Thank you for allowing for my opinion.

Based on the observation above I'd say that we'd get a more accurate estimate if we flipped a coin...

Larry,

Fawlty Towers is one of my favorite all time TV shows along with Are You Being Served ("Mr Humphrey. Are you free?"), and Dr Who (I have 128 hours of this on VHS including Drs 1-7.) Of course I also watched BBC's contribution to culture, aka Monty Python's Flying Circus as well as many episodes of Dave Allen At Large and The Two Ronnies on our local PBS affiliate in Chicago.

I once stayed at a motel near Sarnia, Ontario that was owned by a Frenchman, had a Scottish chef (can you say "haggis?") and a little Spanish waiter that spoke almost no English and even less French. He'd listen intently to anyone who spoke to him and then say "Que?" If he wasn't the basis of the guy on FT, he could have been...
