I wrote this while thinking of a friend whose wife has been unfaithful.

Pain In My Heart
------------------------

Pain in my heart.
I wear my heart on my sleeve
With all of the lies, surely I should leave.
But there's a part of her that I know is for real
It keeps me from the door, it makes me heel.

Through pain I learn sorrow.
Through pain I know sin.
Through pain I learn happiness.
Through pain I am made whole.

Pain is a crossroad.
I wonder what path I should take
Her presence frustrates me, her bite is like snakes.
Yet there is something about her that keeps me around
A depth to her soul that cries out in a lonely sound.

Through pain I learn sorrow.
Through pain I know sin.
Through pain I learn happiness.
Through pain I am made whole.

Pain is a plea for help.
She struggles from lies as her morality churns
I can't rescue her now, to do so would only bridges burn.
Alas, I can't stand idly by
And watch as she struggles, with no ending in sight.

Through pain I learn sorrow.
Through pain I know sin.
Through pain I learn happiness.
Through pain I am made whole.

Pain is what defines us.
Through suffering we are made whole,
That is what's told us, its truth does hold.
So I will love her without giving in,
The truth is what she must find, and find it from within.

Through pain I learn sorrow.
Through pain I know sin.
Through pain I learn happiness.
Through pain I am made whole.

Nice, though a little on the long side .

Perhaps it's time for a Marriage Builder's Poetry Corner?

Here's something I wrote just a few months ago - my first attempt at poetry in almost 20 years (interestingly enough, my previous attempt was also driven by experience with infidelity - nothing like a good old D-Day to get those creative juices going?...):

With healing heart, I trudge along
This rocky path that lies before my eyes
My armor’s damaged but my will is strong
My mind is always on the prize

The glow ahead suggests the end is near
The trials nearly over, the journey almost done
We will soon be together, that much is clear
Our love’s survived, we have won.

Thanks, all.

ManInMotion, you are right, it is a little long, but my friend has a real fondness for music lyrics, so it seemed fitting to throw in a chorus :-)

I don't know what set the other guy off. I certainly wasn't supporting infidelity, just talking about the struggle.

If he was upset at my poor skills, well what can I say :-)

God bless all,
Gimble

MiM, I forgot to mention that i liked your poem as well.

If you folks could see me, you would never believe that poetry could ever come out of my mouth....

Hi, MrsW

Would you mind telling me what the poster had issues with in my poem if you feel comfortable doing so? I would like to learn from this.

Thanks,
Gimble

Gimble,

I read what the poster said, and it was not an honest critique of your piece, it was a smart alecky response. Keep your day job, or something equally uninspired.

I love poetry, I read it all the time, since I was a child. I like your poem, although with the chorus lines it is more of song form.

And you know what? It doesn't even matter. You are being creative. And as someone once told me, spiritualty means being inspired. When I see someone tapping into their creativity, it speaks of happiness and inner peace. Wouldn't you agree?

Keep writing I say. Just let it flow.

Do you remember that thread WAT had with the lyrics contest? That was such a fun thread. Of course, he never would say who the winner was, so I of course just considered it was me. LOL

This place has a whole lot of nastiness going on lately, and for what reason, I don't know. It is so unnecessary.

Hi, Weaver.

Well, the critique from the person unknown, may hold truth in that the poem is not my best work, which is much darker and inappropriate for this forum.

All I had hoped for was to possibly prop up a betrayed husband a bit during a tough time, otherwise, I would have kept it private.

To the poster, if you are still reading here. If you have something to say to make life just a bit better for someone in pain here, then by all means, speak up, if not, then please keep a sock in it.

Pain is a very real part of the process people go through here, it is the unavoidable fallout of an affair. The crap sandwich that the betrayed is forced to eat. Deal with it they must, and if they can approach the pain as an opportunity to grow, then all the better.

When writing prose,
be sure it flows...

Don't just rhyme for rhyming sake,
that makes us think you are a flake...

it sucked pretty bad made you sound like a hick,
excuse me where do I go to be sick?
