I have to believe that this addiction to meds has happened to many recovering people. Please share your advice and experience. My FWW has been using pain meds for a long time now. Her tolerance and numbers have increased while my respect has gone in the opposite direction.

There are always reasons and excuses to be found in any situation, but I belive:

You don't just become a pill addict
You don't "just have" a casual long term affair
Those extra pounds dont just appear--- you have to be a willing volunteer-- and for all of the above put something in your mouth.
I really don't know where to go from here.

Please help with my confusion, anger, and pain. I don't drink or take drugs so I am not good at this. GGB

HI GGB,

I'm sorry you are hurting and in pain. If this is your first time here you are in a good and safe place. Keep asking questions and gather as much information as you can. It helps to know that you aren't alone.

I am a recovering addict/alcholic and I believe yes you can just become addicted to those pills.

As someone who weighed as much as 327 lbs almost 8 months ago, yes, the food can just appear. When you are in the addiction you are NOT AT CHOICE. Not where food is and not where pills are. Trust me on that.

I can't address the issues of the long term affair as I am way too new to give advice on that and struggle with this alot of the time. However, I do accept the fact that the long term A behavior is an addiction as well and just as destructive as pills and food.

Please ask as many questions as you need. People who have way more knowledge and advice will be along soon.

Remember you are not alone and people on here truly care.

What has your wife been diagnosed with or experienced that has required pain meds? Have the meds been prescribed by a physician? Does she work or is she home bound? How long is a long time that she's been taking them? Do you have children?
