My MIL gave me her mothers quilts. They were not finished and needed work and I loved quilts. I never got around to doing anything with them and no longer have the space to store them.
My MIL passed away and I have been divorced for several years. I have not been in touch with my SILs recently, although we were always on good terms. I am not sure they would even be interested.
Do you think I should offer them the quilts or just do what I want with them? Somehow I am having a hard time thinking of getting rid of them .

No brainer....offer them the quilts. Or, send them as gifts and let them know you were thinking about them, remember them fondly, hope they are well.
It's such a good opportunity to show consideration.

Send them as a positive gesture.
You can even include in your note that if they don't wish to keep them, you'd be happy to keep them.
