If your marriage recovery involves BOTH overcoming INFIDELITY and FAMILY ALCOHOL (like mind)

here is where I went astray - and astray - and astray

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
To go forward - Follow these steps...
Work at your own pace with an open mind, and willingness to do the best for today, striving for progress not perfection!
We admitted we were powerless over alcohol - that our lives had become unmanageable.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.

Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God, as we understood him.

Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects in character.

Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

Made a list of all persons we had harmed and become willing to make amends to them all.

Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, as we understood him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.

Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As an AlAnon myself - I must resist taking other people's inventory ON A DAILY BASIS
it's what we do, us AlAnons - always with the verrrry best intentions, mind you flirt
"Here, I'm going to help you - by taking YOUR inventory" flirt
gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaakkkkkkkkkkkkkkk sick
this is me kicking my own cute butt
Thanks Pep, for both posts. I was doing that, wasn't I? Taking H's mother's inventory! DANG it!
That's definitely the OLD me and I am very grateful that you picked up on it & helped me see it before I'd gone too far.
What's crazy (to me, considering it'd become such a habit) is that I'm NOT taking H's inventory! Once he committed to sobriety that was it - I will not police or govern him (terms he's used before) - I don't want to or feel the need to. With his commitment comes my trust, and commitment to (continue to) work on me.
Julie daaahling ---- flirt
for more than 12 years it's something I continually have to resist and catch myself doing even all these years later ....
just letting you know - your FAMILY ALCOHOL recovery (mine too) is as daily a commitment as as the drinker's commitment to resist the drink
there are challenges ahead for both of us (you and I)
