Please keep my brother in your thoughts. Last night he went to the hospital with severe stomach pain and it was found to be appendicitis.
I haven't heard yet about what they're doing (whether they are removing it or not), but I do know that things can go badly if not treated. Though he is being tended very well.

Thank you both.
I learned this morning that he has already had his appendix out.
He'll be out of work for several weeks.

Glad to hear it hadn't ruptured, karma. I know several people who have recently had appendicitis. Something in the water? Hoping for a speedy recovery.

He's at home now. I find it very...wrong...that anyone would come home so soon after major surgery. Thanks for all the prayers, it looks like they worked.

Appendectomies are no longer major surgery. Prisca was home less than 24 hours after hers was removed. The doctors said it was no problem. There were a couple of nurses who were "alarmed," though. I think Prisca wanted me to punch them.

Two years ago, my son had one and it was pretty bad as he also had peritonitis (sp?). It was done laprascopically so it wasn't a "major" surgery but it is still pretty scary and painful.
Then a few days after we got home, we had to go back because he was experiencing stomach pain again. It turned out to be an obstruction ~ I guess because everything (bowels, etc) is inflamed from surgery that can happen. Please make your brother knows to go right back to the hospital if he starts experiencing discomfort again.

He's telling us now, that it actually did rupture, so he's extremely lucky that he went to the hospital when he did, because "they caught it just in time."
Thank you all for the prayers!

Appendectomies are no longer major surgery. Speak for yourself. Okay, let me rephrase that: The way appendectomies are performed has changed. They are much less invasive than they used to be. Going home much sooner is quite common. And my wife wanted me to deck some nurses.

Actually, no, I didn't buy him any ice cream. I think that is for tonsils. Hrmm....funny thing is, he doesn't really like ice cream.
