I found out 2 years ago my husband had an online affair with a girl who he knew from New York. I knew of this girl, as she use to text or ring him from time to time on friendly basis (or so he told me). He told me she was his cousin, and he lived out there for approx 3 months before I met him, and they became good friends. I never questioned this as he has a lot of family out there. She was even invited to our wedding, but did not attend.

We were only married a year and half when I found out. I found out 3 weeks after our first son was born that they were emailing, texting, and calling each other. I found an email address of his that I didnt know existed, and I found a way of logging in. To my shock and horror, I found these emails. Some were romantic, some were rude and dirty, and some were everyday things.

When I confronted my husband, the first thing he did before talking to me was push me away from the computer and delete all the emails, so I didnt read them all. At first he blamed her and said it was nothing, as nothing physically happen, and he was very defensive.

This woman was also married, so I got her to give me her husbands number so I could ring him and tell him about it. He told me that she was having a baby (about 2 or 3 months pregnant) and she was over in Ireland in Feb visiting family. Both my husband and this woman deny they ever met. My husband did tell me he booked a hotel down the country for the two of them, but she would not meet him. The only reason he told me this was because I demanded to see our credit card statements. According to my husband and this woman, they started this online thing before xmas, and I found out in the May.

We tried counselling when this happened, but I didnt find it any good as after 3 sessions, the counsellor just wanted me to move on, and I wasnt ready. Plus I found out later that my husband wasnt telling all the truth.

2 years on and the rawness is gone, but I still feel in limbo. My husband finds it hard to talk about it, and I want to talk about it, so it causes arguments. I recently found out that my husband was looking into porn sites and signed up to a lot of dating and chat room sites. He also posted very explicit photos of himself in these sites. He denies ever meeting any of these women, but I find it all hard to believe.

I trust my husband at present, as I have access to his emails, etc., and I do believe he is sorry, and I know he loves me. I dont feel he would do it again. But my problem is the past because I feel as if there is something else out there that I dont know about, and Im so scared of putting all my trust AND faith back into this relationship for something else to happen. As I told my husband, if I find anything else out, then thats it -- I can not take it. I dont know if its me and because of all the lies that I feel he is hiding more or is he? My husband thinks if we dont talk about it, and if he doesnt tell me things because he cant face up to them, then it will all go away. But Im at breaking point. I know in my heart he hasnt been honest about everything in the past since we met or got married. Im always searching to find it out. I feel some days Im going mad. Everything I know right now I had to find out myself. It did not come from husband. And when I confront him about anything, he says, I thought we were moving on, and it always ends in row. So I keep all my feelings to myself, as I dont want to row.

I want my relationship to work, and I know my husband does, too. But I dont know if he is man enough to face up to his past and what he has done. I feel sometimes like Im doing it all -- the sacrifices, the forgiveness, the pain -- and he just wants to move on. Your advice on what to do would be greatly appreciated. I need help for the sake of me and my 3 children.

Please advise and help and let me know your thoughts if you think there is more to his story or am I going mad

Welcome to Marriage Builders. Please edit your post into paragraphs so folks can read it. You will get much more help if you post in paragraphs and keep it short and sweet. Thank you.

Gercoyle, welcome to marriage builders. I am sorry that you're hurting. I'm also sorry to say that there is much more to things than what you've been told. Now before you run off and confront your WH about this, start reading. Don't share this site with you WH just yet.

How long have you been married?

I agree with Melodylane, please go back and edit your post and break it down to smaller paragraphs. It was really hard to read. There are a ton of red flags here.

And don't forget to breathe.

Gercoyle,

Welcome to Marriage Builders. I took the liberty of breaking your post into paragraphs and adding some punctuation to make it easier to read.

Gercoyle,

I think the first thing for you to do is to read as much on this site as you can. Learn the basic principles of Marriage Builders. That will give you a frame of reference for what everyone here is talking about.

There are a lot of people on this forum who have lived through situations similar to yours. I'm sure they will have a lot of helpful advice.

Hi Gercoyle, welcome to Marriage Builders. The way to fix this is to schedule a polygraph test and tell him 2 days beforehand. At that time hand him a list of questions that have to be answered truthfully before the test. Inform him that he has one last chance to get the record straight before the polygraph, but if he fails it, you will know he is lying and the marriage is over.

What they typically do is agree to the test out of a sense of pride (they know it will look bad if they object) and then they start backpedaling from there. Once he sees you are serious he will likely start to come clean.

If he objects tell him that you are giving him a chance to prove his veracity and how could he possibly object to that?? Tell him that is what it will take to keep you in this marriage. If he cries "you don't trust me!!!" tell him "you betcha!!" and if you pass the polygraph and answer all my questions truthfully, it would be a good start on earning my trust. But you must EARN my trust.

If that sounds harsh, G, just consider this: do you recognize how his lack of truthfulness is getting WORSE and not better? Don't you think you would just sweep this under the rug if you could? The truth is that you can't move on until you have al the truth. Your anxiety will get worse until you start suffering with emotional or physical problems, if you haven't already.

You cannot start recovery until you have the truth about your life. Check out this letter sent to Dr. Harley from a lady who was having nightmares because her husband ws withholding the truth. http://forum.marriagebuilders.com/ubbt/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2311122#Post2311122

Hi there,

We will be 4 years married this year. When I found out we were over a year married.

Why do you think there is much more than what I have been told?

Thanks for your reply.

Hi Gercoyle, glad to see you're still here. Why do I think there is much more? Because you've only been married a short time before infidelity devastated your marriage. You really shouldn't be past the honeymoon period yet and you're already dealing with something that can DESTROY a marriage.

Go back and read Melodylane's post to you. It's important.

Please tell us what you're thinking.

Did you know about the porn and chat rooms before you married him? I am curious if you knew why you set the bar so low for your marriage? These are troubling behaviors that indicate more problems will likely occur later on.
