I have posted under the Prayer section but I need some more help. My Mom is going in for a bone scan on Friday. She had breast cancer 2 and a half years ago but they fear that it's spread.<P>I need 2 things from you all. First, prayer and lots of it. Second, does anyone know anything about bone cancer? I have heard it's one of the most painful cancers to have. I just do not have the energy to look tonight for information.<P>Thank you all for everything. My Uncle Fred had bone cancer and yes he passed away but from a massive heart attack not the cancer. The doctors told him that bone cancer is the slowest moving cancer going and most times you will die of old age before bone cancer gets you.<P>My uncle also smoked and drank like a fish, he refused to change his life style and that is what killed him.<P>My Prayers are with you!

K - unfortunately, I learned a lot about cancers during my son's illness. I am not a physician, but let me help a little. I don't think your Mom has "bone cancer" per se. What she may have is metastisis of her original breast cancer to her bones. So don't equate what you've heard about other's "bone cancer" to what your Mom has. I'm not sure that there really is a "bone cancer."<P>Do you have the PDQ on breast cancer? If you don't know what this is, you don't have it. This is a description of the specific cancer of interest - in your Mom's case, breast cancer. There are two PDQs for each disease. One for general consumption by patients and their families and one for physicians. Hi Knewjie,<BR>I'm so sorry to hear about your mother...My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.<P>My mother has been dealing with various types of cancer for the last 23 years. She is a fighter, and is doing fairly well these days.<BR>This last year her bones became affected...they started to become more porous than their supposed to be, and have therefor started to deterioriate (sp?).<BR>They can chip or fragment easily, and sometimes cause her pain in her heels when she walks. The Doctors are working on a brace to ease this discomfort.<BR>We've (the family) been told that her condition is NOT life threatening, but will cause a fair bit of discomfort as time goes on.<BR>We've also been told that with treatment, medication, and supplements there is a chance that at least some of the process can be reversed, or at the very least slowed down to a managable level.<BR>The doctors have also said that part of the condition is a result of the many months Mom had to spend in radiation therapy.<BR>That's really all I know 'cause Mom is a stubborn independant gal that doesn't like to talk about it much.<P>Please remember that you're not alone...be strong for your mother, and we'll be strong for you - OK?<P>(((hugs))) to you and your Mom.<BR>SD

My wife died of breast Cancer after a two year struggle. I can relate very well. It was the worst time of my life. She suffered a lot the last six months. I spent $20,000 trying all kinds of alternative medical treatments but nothing conventional or traditional helped. So it really is up to God. Some people have lived a very long time (to old age) with a body full of Cancer. It all depends what organs are affected. Cancer is not always a death sentence but it is very scary. My prayers are with you also.

I am praying too...<P>My mother had breast cancer, and used alternative treatments after her masectomy. She is five years post diagnosis - and healing can and does happen! Here's an update..<P>Today my Mom spoke with the radiologist and they told her she has to talk to her PCP to get the results of her test. She thinks she will talk to her tomorrow. knewje, You and your mom are in my prayers. <P>I wanted to concur with WAt that it is most likely bone cancer they are looking for, but metastasis. I was wondering what her current symptoms were??? Chest pain???<P>Did your mom have a double mastectomy??? <P>I ask, because believe it or not, I have 3 friends who are in different stages of breast CA and treatment. It was chest pain, and not a lump at all, that was the symptom for one of my friends, who is young (mid 30's ) and has never had reason for a mamogram. Her bone scans were negative. She had Ca in 60% of her right breast.. and 8 out of 12 lymph nodes were positive. <P>She had a double mastectomy.. And even with what I just said, she has a 60% chance of no recurrence without treatment. That chance goes up significantly with chemo and radiation, which she is doing. <P>Those are actually pretty good odds. I realize that there has to be some people who fall into the other negative extreme, but as a critical care nurse I have watched many miracles... which always keeps me optimistic, yet cautious.

<B>Tootrusting</B><P>Current symptoms were chest pain, you are correct. Mom has had a total of 6 lumpectomies.<P>Wow, 3 friends all at the same time!! I will keep them in my prayers.<P>I just spoke with my mom. The chest pain was just from inflammation and not cancer. YEA! The odd thing is that they found something wrong with her left knee in the bone scan. Her knee isn't bothering her at all. She is scheduled for more tests next Tuesday. <B>Update!</B><P>After the doctors ran more tests they determined that what they found in her knee was an old injury and it was just aggravated. There is no cancer!!! <P>Another update for you all..<BR>My husband and I have reconciled and are on the road to recovery! <P>Side note..<BR>I used to post under LostNco/DSN until an unwanted person appeared on to this site.
