Quick background. My dh cheated on me with his ex-girlfrind (his son's Mom) when we were together 6 mo. and engaged, and he then cheated on me with another woman one month before we got married. I found out about both instances after the second occurance. We did a lot of soul searching and proceeded with the wedding, knowing that if we postponed it we would only get married a few months later. Our friends and family supported us, but initially they urged us to postpone the wedding.
That was 6 months ago and I am starting to regret getting married when we did. I am not saying that I regret getting married, but at that time. His infidelity caused my bridemaid's to cancel my bridal shower and it has never been reshceduled, and will more than likely never be held. While I was happy on my wedding day, it was no where near the happiness that I should have felt that day. I felt like people were laughing at me while my husband was saying his vows. Our honeymoon was riddled with snide comments from me about his actions and questioning how I could live in a marriage where I had no trust in him.
We are doing well now, but there are times when I feel like it all happened yesterday. I attempted to seek counseling before the wedding, but the counselor that we saw for pre-marital counseling couldn't see us. I actually have a call into him right now to schedule an appointment because I feel like I need to talk to someone.
I am starting to feel a lot of regret and anger about getting married when we did. I kind of talked to my dh about it, but I was not as brutually honest as I am here. He doesn't feel that way. When I look back at our wedding day and the events leading up to it, I don't see a lot of happiness. I just wish that I could redo it, but I can't. I feel like one of the most important events in my life was forever ruined and there is no way that it can ever be changed. How do I get over it or will it just take time?
