Am I having unrealistic, demanding expectations on my one year anniversary? It was this past weekend and my husband didn't get me anything, not even a card. I don't expect thousands of dollars in jewelry or anything but I thought that I might get something to make me feel special on our day. I had been planning for our anniversary for months...I got him a card and made him a book with the top ten reasons I love him with a bunch of pics and clippings of things we've done together in the past year. I'm so upset by this...I feel like I deserve more than nothing on my one year anniversary. We did plan to go to dinner on that night but after he said he didn't get me anything and he was sorry, I was too hurt to go. He claims that he was taking me out to dinner for our anniversary but to me, we go to dinner EVERY weekend...and it wasn't even his idea to go to dinner that night..it was mine. Am I being a selfish brat?

I don't think your expectations were (are) demanding but I'm not sure about the unrealistic part. I'd say you do deserve something special. But I'd also ask - did you make your expectations known?

You did a bunch of wonderful things - planning, buying, making, etc., but can you see that those are things you'd like? Different people 'speak' love in different ways. Have you read the book 'The Five Love Languages'? It describes how we usually send messages of love using the 'language' we prefer. And we also expect our spouses to send messages of love (to us) using the same language - even though it may not be their preferred love language.

Having said all that, it behooves you (oh no - I'm starting to sound like my mother!) to talk about this with your husband. Expecting him to just intuitively know what you want will lead to more unmet expectations.

BTW, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />
