I'm sorry that I don't have a better memory...I can't remember the name nor author of the book I would like to recommend (big help huh?). It is a science-based book refuting evolutionary doctrine. The author is from a church in Moscow, ID. I asked a friend who grew up there about the book and he happened to be a member of that church and gave a copy of the book to me! Now, I can't find it, but I will keep trying.
Some advice: Try to focus any scientific arguments to his field of knowledge and interest. Mine happens to be biology and the book, for which I have no information, fits that bill.
I lucked out. I had an inspired biology instructor when I began college. I was not a Christian. He taught biology in a way that emphasized the beauty in all biological processes in the world. Once a process was understood to the smallest detail, the profoundity of anyone calling it "chance" seemed insanity. He didn't offer solutions, only brought the horse to the well. I've found that my ability to enjoy science and have unique ideas (very important in science) comes from my eyes being open to the many, many dogmas that exist. Evolution nor religion have any place in science...neither is provable using the scientific method which is the foundation for all scientific endeavor. As a man of science, I often pray that God will help me see his wonders in such unlikely things as bacteria. However, I could never write a paper detailing a process and finish-up with "...because that's the way God made it."
Lots of food for thought in this arena. It's an ugly argument to jump into with a non-believer though. When I finally saw the light, I went to my bio instructor and told him how much some things were bothering me in our text and other things that we'd read. At that point, out of the classroom, he did tell me about God and that every day during class there were scores of people praying for me, by name, as he taught. Whoah! It all hit me. I saw other students begin feeling the same itch and they would soon be earning A's in a difficult class.
Of course, this man was fired from his job. No one could pinpoint why he was "officially" fired but everyone knew. He didn't fight it. He felt God spoke to him that this would happen and that he should not fight it.
To this day, students speak of a science instructor they heard was an outstanding teacher but was fired for his out of the classroom beliefs.
Ya, I know this is way more than you asked for but I felt like telling the story. I will certainly pray that your husband. He will truly feel a great sense of relief when he finally sees science through the eyes of the Creator. It's an ugly, ugly world of chance and genetic mistakes otherwise.
