Help prayer warriors!<P>I need your prayers desperately. Please! I cut and paste from the prayer requests form, and am not getting much support. Will my lady prayer warriors lay their hands on their computer screen, and pray for Connie's job? I have exhausted all of my efforts that I can do on my own, it is totally up to God. He gets all the glory! I am currently a volunteer, a one year term that ends Aug. 14th. I am praying the college I am serving will hire me at the end my volunteer term. I really need this job, as my husband was just laid off a couple of weeks ago. I am not eligible for unemployment, and the college will be creating a position for me, but they do not know what kind of a position to create - (we have a brand new human resources person). Please pray in agreement with me that I will be given a job here at the college, and that the new human resources person will have divine wisdom in creating the position. I keep hearing through the grapevine they are going to hire me, but still no official word - and I have 7 working days left of my volunteer year. I went and took a typing test - 61 wpm - and submitted that yesterday, still - nothing. They say that if they create a job, they have to advertise it in-house for 10 days, then open it up for applications state-wide.... This could be a terrible delay - unless they hire me with a temporary position? They said they will create a 51% part time 3 month temporary job for me to report to the new director. (I have been directing one of the centers for the past year full-time.)<P>At least I have continuous employment for another 3 months, and am requesting more prayer. I will not be eligible for insurance benefits while I am only a temporary employee, and will have to delay my ankle surgery from my fall back in April. <P>Specifically, please pray that they create a permanent position for me in the center as a director. I think it is okay to pray specifically for this job. I had to give a presentation on behalf of the college the following day 4 hours north, still not knowing if I would be employed. I was on the agenda and everything! Then on Thurs. I had a grant meeting 4 hours south! eee gads, talk about keeping me in limbo!<P>He told me to work 20 hours a week, and they would hire me as a secretary 2 position.... (I am administering & writing grants, and running a program!) When I got back on Fri, (after exceeding 20 hours for attending these out of town meetings), the Human Resources person had created the paperwork to employ me but without a job name or description or anything.... It is still up in the air! Grant reports are due, and I am suppose to attend a pre-grant conference 4 hours south on Fri again this week. As far as I know, Secretary 2's can't administer grants.... The VP is avoiding me, and doesn't have time to talk, neither does Human Resources.... Is that a good thing?<P>Anyways, please keep me in your prayers. And my husband! He was laid off over a month ago. There hasn't been one job in our area that fits his qualifications since he was laid off. We are in a rural area, so I am feeling very desperate for prayers.<P>Our house has been for sale for a month now, and we finally had 3 families come to look. She told him that it is a 3 year grant, and I am the only one who has been to all the trainings, and I am the one writing the reports, and implementing the activities for the grant. I requested a meeting with the Business Mgr, VP and Human Resources person to review my job description - which I have not yet received nor believe it has been created. (Hope I get paid!) VP told D.C. person that he would not create any position that had the name director in it for me (no bachelors degree.) She told him she didn't care what position it was called, but that she expects me to do the grants. <P>Woo Hoo? Anyway, PLEASE keep this in your prayers. This could either make him angry or confirm that I should be hired. Please? Obviously they created a position. So, I asked, what was the position? They told me to talk to the VP and to Human Resources. So, I did. The business office in essence created an emergency opportunity so that administration would have to talk to me.<P>Well, the job is an entry level clerical/office position. Unbelievable. I can't afford to accept it. Here I've worked 2 weeks, not knowing what I would be paid or what position they were giving me. <P>I have been directing the work of a clerical person who is rated higher than I am. I am directing an academic support program, responsible for about 400 college students a year, supervising, developing methods of assessment, manuals, policies/procedures, databases, web-site management, etc. and they think that I qualify as an entry level office person..... uggh!<P>I asked them to upgrade the position, and agreed to serve one more week to allow them the time to do this. I will end my service on Tuesday unless they can upgrade this to a suitable classification.<P>Please, will you all pray? I went with my husband today to the work-force center, and he is a "displaced" worker. No jobs with his skills in our area. He has to be re-trained. <P>The offer on the house was on a contingency, the buyers have had their mobile home for sale for a year and cannot sell it, so it is not a viable offer. <P>We are feeling pretty desperate, and will appreciate all your prayers.<P>Thank you<BR>TnT<P> <BR>

Father God, our most precious Lord, we thank you for how you have carried Connie and her husband through all the tough times over the past years, we praise you for your graciousness to them and for the strength you have added to their marriage. You know what they need even before we ask Lord and yet you desire for us to ask knowing that it will be given. father, show Connie and her H where it is that you would have them to go, have them do and what you would have them learn through this latest trial. Give them your peace and your wisdom and your insight to the possibilities around them. You provided Connie with this volunteer job that has given her much experience. Use that experience for your glory now Lord, show her if this is now where she should be placing her efforts or if you have something else in mind for them. Her H qualifies for retraining Father. Show him what you would have him retrain in, show them how to combine their resources and talents together so that physical needs can be met, so that financial responsibilities can be covered. Show them what you would have them learn. You are the great provider and you have said that you are sufficient for all our needs. Show connie and her H how this applies to them in this time and place. Help them to rest under your wings, sensitive to your will and call to them. If this college job is in your will, let this position be created so that Connie can help her H during this time of retraining. In all things Lord, we give you the glory, IJN, Amen.

I will be praying for you tnt. It's a tough spot. On one hand, you have a foot in the door with a lower position. On the other hand, they are taking advantage of you if the pay corresponds to entry level, and you are doing director work. A lot of red tape accompanies public sector employment. Part of that red tape includes difficulty in creating new positions. Nonetheless an employer has an obligation to provide jobs that match the activities of the employee. <P>You don't seem to have much manuevering room here. If you're doing director level work, then that's the job they should give you. They may give you a title which is inadequate, and regardless of your duties, you will only get credit for what's in your classification if you get entry level and then apply elsewhere within the state network. On the other hand, you could take the entry level, document your activities for a while, and when things are on a stronger foot financially, apply for a reclassification (which admin usually doesn't like because it shows they have purposely worked you at a higher level than they're paying and it makes them look bad). I've seen "temporary" workers get extended time and again. They have the option to leave, of course, but if they want to remain employed, they are in essence exploited because they're doing the same work as others without the benefits of insurance, vacation, etc. Bottom line, you can potentially take employment at an entry level while doing higher level work. You'll have a paycheck, but they'd be exploiting you! Are there any options for you elsewhere?

This is a rural commuity, and yes, there are jobs elsewhere but with 2.5 - 3.0 hour commutes. <P>Sue B, thank you so much for your prayers. And Lonesome Heart - you gave great insight. <P>The VP called me about 11:15 am - God does move hearts! He would request that an "intermediate" position be created for 6 months temporary part-time, if I would agree to accept it. It pays about $3.00 an hour more than what they previously created, and I am at a step higher classification. I would still be doing more than what is on the job description, but I now know to document what I am doing. I will do this! Thanks for the advice.<P>God is amazing, and deserves the credit and the glory. I will do a very good job, I will be a thankful servent.
