My WH seems to be ready for counseling. We have considered telephone counseling with Harley's but my husband is apprehensive. Are any MB'ers from the Atlanta area? If so does anyone have a recommendation for a counselor in this area?

Thanks

BHampton-

I was apprehensive about the phone coaching as well. However I gave it a try and am VERY impressed with it. I found that it works very well especially when you have kids. You don't need to find a sitter, you can schedule the appointment in the evening while the kids are in bed or one of you can watch the kids while the other is on the phone. How it normally works is, the coach will talk to one of you at a time. Leaving the other to handle the kids. It is very convienent and they are very good. I actually found it was easier to open up and keep my composure when I wasn't face to face with a counselor. I'm working with Jennifer (Dr. Harley's daughter), she is awesome. They are expensive but so far she has only wanted to talk about every 3 wks, so it isn't to bad.

I'd try to convince you H to try it once, and if he still feels funny about it, then find someone else. If you don't want to use the Harley's, Cerri is very good a well. She is a professional coach too. You can get info on her and her services from her web site: www.saveyourmarriagecentral.com

Either way, I think you'd be time and money ahead with these folks. I spent a week calling every counselor in the greater Minneapolis / St. Paul phone book and to my chagrin, nobody had either heard of these principles or they didn't follow them. I just didn't think it was worth the time trying to see a counselor that didn't believe in the principles I was trying to use to save my marriage. Besides, at least here, the price differance was not enought to really worry about and I couldn't find anybody who did evening appointments. So, for me, the Harley's were hands down the logical choice.

Just an FYI. How many months along are you?

Hi Bhampton,

Not sure if both you and your WH are religious, but I've been going to a Christian counselor in Acworth. He has not heard of these principles in this context but then again if you are a Christian the bible is the only true source for answers anyhow.

Dr Lynn Browning
lbrowning@wildwoodbaptist.org
770-428-2100
4801 Wade Green Road
Acworth, GA 30102

$70 per session and he does the counseling out of a church office so the fees aren't as high. You don't have to be part of the church and he has great credentials/experience.

Also, if you'd like to learn more about NANC and their beliefs and philosophies regarding counseling just log onto their National Website and read up on them. A lot of them provide free counseling as part of their ministry. Our counselor is a member of NANC and was very good. Our counseling was free of charge but we were held to biblical standards and to being obedient to God. Nouthetic, by the way, means "biblical" in case you are curious.

I really can't say enough good about their counseling, which is obviously intended for Christians. So I hope that you will consider Christian marital counseling as I believe it is vital for believers who have strayed or are struggling in their marriages.

Here is the link if you want to check out more about NANC:

National Association of Nouthetic Counselors

God bless and good luck in finding a good counselor who is dedicated to saving marriages and teaching how to be obedient to God's commands.
