Since I found out about A, I've been on A/D... they've switched my meds a number of times and have constantly been increasing dosages and adding medications. Currently I am on 30 mg of Remeron and 10 mg of Lexapro. I am still having frequent panic attacks and lots of anxiety. My WH still says he doesn't know what he wants and that's just adding to my anxiety. I go see the Doctor again on Tuesday to get my meds readjusted because they aren't working properly. My therapist thinks they need to try something new. Does anyone have any experience with this or medications that helped... maybe I could suggest something to the doctor... because I am so tired of this. I have never in my life had to take anykind of A/D or nerve medication... but things obviously change... Thanks

I am on Paxil and it has really helped with my panic attacks. But everyone is different. I'm sure the doctor will figure out something that works for you. I know how miserable you must be.

Hang in there. We are here for you.

I applaud your willingness to see a Dr. for medications. Let me tell you what my Dr. told me. First off, I believe your Dr. should be a psychiatrist, not a GP, a Psych. has the ability to not only medically treat you, but provide therapy as well. Drugs alone will not "cure" what you are going through. Secondly, my Dr. has told me that it takes almost 2 months of medication to determine the effectiveness of the drugs they put you on. Some drugs can have quick and poor side effects, if you experience them, tell your Dr immediatly. Third, plan on being on this medication for a minimum of one year.
Above all, believe in yourself, the quality human being you are and know that there are people out there that value you, because you are a very special person.

Ask them about adding an anti-anxiety pill like xanax for the panic attacks. It has been months for me and I still take one before bedtime, other wise I just lay there and get myself all worked up over the whole thing just like it was D day again. There are also AD's for anxiety like Paxil, and Prozac. Get with a Dr. that knows the meds. I had terrible panic attacks in the beginning, so much I left my cart at walmart several times and freaked my kids out doing so. There are exercises you can do for them that really work, but you need to see a counselor or a head Dr. to get them. Good Luck, and you will get through it I swear. It just doesn't feel like it right now.

Thanks All for your responses. I am sorry if I didn't say that clearly.... but I am seeing the psychiatrist once a month for the med. adjustment. I also see a family therapist once a week and have been since December. They started me on zoloft and xanax which were prescribed by my family doctor and he recommended the psy. who said that zoloft wasn't nearly enough for all my stress (in addition to the A, I also found out I had cancer 3 days after D day). The xanax seemed to work but they were concerned because xanax is an addictive drug. So now I am on the remeron and lexapro... but I still keep having these panic attacks and am still fighting bouts of depression. I am going to ask about some of those other medications... thanks for all your advice.

Hi there,

I have suffered from panic disorder since the age of 13.

Since I discovered my boyfriend's infidelity (We have been with one another for 11 years and have a child together) my anxiety has skyrocketed.

I take Ativan on an as needed basis. It has been a life saver.

The Remeron and Lexapro are good medications but take awhile to take the desired affect. If you are suffering from anxiety and or panic, talk to your doctor about a fast acting anti-anxiety med, such as Xanax or Ativan.

Best of luck to you.
