My wife is very very close to her parents. Her parenet's sacrificed everything for her and seem to need her all the time. 4 years ago we invited them into our house and my wife spent all her time with them and I got very upset and wasn't hospitable to them after a while (I was rude). They left upset with me although they said it was because of both of us. On top of this her parents have a very emotional and turbulent marriage which demands my wife's attention with their problems. My wife wants to take care of her mother since she has Ashma but I keep telling her that proper medical drugs can take care of this. My wife also has a close relation with her sister and advises her parents on all aspects of her sister and her need to get married.

Anyhow, in the last year we have been trying to have a baby and my wife's parents want to live nearby and take care of the baby. Initially I put my foot down and told her that I would be miserable and I don't want them around. I am very encouraging of visits and holidays though. Before she went to visit her parents I told her to tell them what she would like (ie for them to come over) but she told them what I thought of them.

When she came back from her trip, both her parents and herself want me to separate. She says (I dont believe her) that she loved me for only 1 year and has tried to make the marriage work for the other 6 years. She is asking for a separation and I will always love her dearly. She will not talk with me even though I have begged daily for 1 week for forgiveness and that I will change and accept her wishes and her parents can live nearby.

What steps do I need to do to win her back or is it my fault for not seeing the signs earlier.

Michael,

To put it short and sweet, you may have driven her away by not accepting her family as part and parcel of her. Devotion to family on her part is obviously very important to her, and even though you don't particularly get along with them you can't expect , or demand that she do without them for your sake.

As far as what to do, make a concerted effort to change the way you see them. They aren't a challenge to you if you really love your wife and if she really loves you. Promise yourself, and her that you will gladly accept them as part of your family. Make ammends to them and your wife for the way you have treated them in the past.

Healing my take time, but isn't it worth it?
you may be justified in the way you have acted toward them, but swallowing your pride is a small price to pay for the sake of YOUR family.

Good luck.

Thank you John, I was very happy to get some perspective and advice on this. I've also convinced her to go with me to counseling which I think will help us both. Thank you again.

Michael.
