My H and I are fighting constantly! We have been married 20 mos and have a 10 mos old baby. Unexpected, but we both love her to bits and pieces. There is rarely a day that goes by that we don't get in a fight. I think it is more one big fight that goes unresolved.
My husband is Korean and was raised very differently than I was. I think his dad RULED the house. My dad treated my mom with respect and they were partners. He says I don't listen to him. This includes if he says I shouldn't...ie:put the VCR tape in at that moment and I do....there is a big fight that follows. Basically he expects me to have no opinion. I do believe that I should respect him, but I feel like I deserve that also.
I must admit...both of us are whiners. But whenever he complains, he claims he has every right to. But ANYTHING I say is compaining and 'asking' for an arguement. Everythin gis my fault.
I find myself making up with him for the sake of our daughter and apologizing ALL the time even when it is totally on him. I don't see the man I married anymore and don't want to stay, but I love our daughter and want to make it work. Please help me guys!

Eunhye,
You need to sit down with your husband and comunicate these problems in a non fighting atmosphere. Since most of your arguments go unresolved, than its time to start resolving them one by one. Speaking from my own experience in my marriage, I have found that the key to success is getting your spouse to sit down with you and LISTEN....You need to speak out the things that you feel are a problem in your marriage. You need to do this in a Non Attacking way. That is very Key to getting the comunication flow without the fighting and getting no way cycle.Talk from your Heart, you want him to listen to you more without attacking you verbally. Its is also equaly important that you LISTEN when he responds back without becoming defensive and fighting.I know this is easy for me to sugest but its hard to do.This pattern of fighting and getting no way can be resolved. All it takes is the both of you to look at the problem together and go from there. Now if your husband just wont coroporate or look at any problems and he just wants to blam you for everything, dont let him off the hook and apoligize. Get him to look at the problem, without giving in.This will be a process, but in time your husband will make a step in working on solving the problem. Once you can get your husband to respond in a positive way in resolving conflics and you working on areas with your habitts than your marriage will become Stronger and Stronger. The Key is Getting the root of the problem out in the open.....getting a response from your husband to work on it.This is what marriage is all about. Building a strong life together,it takes time to master it...comunication is the key......

Hi,
I was reading your post and I realize how much in common you and I have. Yes, I agree with Violet that communication is the ultimate key, but your biggest obstacle (and mine) is that Asian men were born and raised pigheaded. It is almost impossible to communicate especially since they shut down when we attempt to make a solid point. In fact, they think we ought to shut up, be subservient, and have no place in the household. Although this is the nineties and we're reaching toward the millenium, they still don't have any regard to us Asian women.
Please remind him that he's no longer the man you remembered him to be, and don't back down on things that are right. The more you surrender, the easier it is for him to put you down. I'm not telling you to go and pick a fight, but do pick the right battles and stick with it. It may also be easier on yourself if you can let go some things that may not be worthwhile to fight over. I can't say that I have working marriage myself, but sometimes I do teach my husband a lesson by doing the things that he does that bothers me. Asian men don't have much empathy, so they can't put themselves in your shoes.
If he wanted a subservient wife, just let him that wasn't on your resume to begin with and try to show some independence so he doesn't think he's the BIG man. Nothing is your fault, please, don't think of it this way. No one deserves frustration and fighting and you definitely don't need any of it. Although it takes time to change and make amends, be prepared to do the same as well.
Well, I hope things are going a little better for you, if you like please email me (bunnywatt@aol.com) if you ever want to 'let the air out'. Good luck.
