The people I care about most - family and close friends know already. How do I start letting those outside that circle know. One of the first things that comes out of everyone's mouth is "What Happened?" I know it's because they care, but I DON'T want to get in heavy discussion about what was wrong in our marriage/relationship.
Any advice out there from experience?
Thanks, Llama

I tell acquaintances that "it just didn't work out". No one has asked me for an explanation when I said that; they just say "I'm sorry". Like you, my close friends, family and even co-workers know. My XH and I work in the same field so we know a lot of the same people who have been asking that question. Of course, what I would like to say is "the creep was cheating on me with one of his clients, got her pregnant and then filed for divorce" but I take the higher road and don't say anything about that even though that's what I am thinking!

Fingers, I don't disagree with you, but was wondering why not the truth. Shouldn't your customers know he has questionable integrity?
I sometimes tell people who ask is that my x got a better deal (at least she though it was).

I would just tell them that the both you decided to go your seperate ways, and that things were not working out between the 2 of you so you decided to call it a day. If they want to know more, just tell them you would rather not talk about it right at the moment... and leave it at that. If they want to know more... which they will... try to excuse yourself from their company. Stay Strong! Wallace

i just say, "he left me", with a very matter-of-fact tone... then i look at them with an expression of "don't ask me any more questions" and i change the subject...
everyone seems to get the message!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

Thanks everyone. I think I agree with "things just didn't turn out" for now. If it's someone who I am close to, eventually when I'm up to sharing more with them I will. It's all the the "others" that I wasn't sure about.
Thanks, Llama

I usually just say, "She was a lying, cheating whore, and I hope she rots in hell!" That seems to do the trick.
Actually, though, divorce is so common nowadays that alot of people don't think twice about the fact that you're divorced. Hell, you're in the MINORITY if you AREN'T divorced!

I have to agree with "it just didn't work out" and move on. I understand the "lying, cheating, etc....." but that looks worse on you than the other even though its true and it also shows that we have not let go of the anger and moved forward. Best Wishes

I could never say the lying cheating thing although I understand the dark humor in it all. I had to snicker a little when I read that - glad you really don't say it. Teee heee heee.

Rather than try to WOW someone with my response, I typically go for the comedic approach:
Me: She decided to take and EMT class Them: <Puzzled look> Me: She now lives with the instructor
or the classic
Me: She slept way too much Them: <Same puzzled look> Me: Oh did I forget to mention that it was in someone else's bed.
Just a thought............

Ok - I have to admit, I'm starting to giggle when reading these posts.....
I got a stupid note from H's father on Monday that said how disappointed he was...blah blah blah. I felt like writing back....
Does this mean I won't get flowers from you any more? LOL! FIL always sent flowers for every occasion, except he was always really early or really late. I still don't think he really knew when my birthday was. LOL!!!!!
