Since I will no longer be covered under my stbxh's policy after the divorce is final, I will have to look for other insurance coverage. Recommendations anyone?
1) good health insurance company you had good experience with
2) bad insurance company you would avoid

Thank you so much.

I know that insurance is a big concern. Do you have full time employment? Does your employer not provide insurance?

Private insurance is very expensive. You might just look into a policy that would only cover major problems( no doctor visits or pharmacy plans) if you are relatively healthy. We have a plan like that for our daughter, to cover her in between graduating college and coverage with her new teaching job starting. It is not that expensive but like I said only covers major problems and has a hefty deductible.

Hope this helps a little.

Thank you for your post. What is the name of the insurance company that your daughter used? and was she happy with them.

I work out of the house, since our little one is only 5 (She will still be covered under her father's plan). So, no employer with health benefits.

I think everyone who sees this question will have a different opinion as to their most and least favorite insurance carrier, and some of those may be contrary to each other, lol. Sometimes the level of service depends on the region you're in and who the "big dogs" are that make determinations - in one state a medical situation may be covered but in another state they may give you a hard time for same situation. I suggest just shopping around on the net.
Good luck!

The insurance company is Globe Life and Accident Insurance Company Phone number is 405- 270-1410
Address is Globe Life Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73184
I really don't know much about them, so I'm not going to say I recommend them. It was just that we needed a temporary policy to cover our daughter. On the date of graduation from college a student is dropped from their parents policy. So she had over 3 months without coverage, so we got this, as a temporary policy.

Might just call them and see what info they could send you.

Gaiaa,

I don't know your story but I just had to respond to you.

Per federal law, divorce is a qualifying event therefore you are eligible for continuation coverage as mandated by Title X., Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA).

Please contact your husband's HR department ASAP and find our the rights you have. COBRA is NOT automatic, you have to elect it within a certain amount of time depending on the size of the group.

COBRA will be more expensive than what you are paying now, but you will have coverage.

I work in the insurance industry so if you have any questions, please let me know.

Knewjie, thank you so much for checking on me. I've been under the weather. I did call the human resources department, but the person I was told to talk with was out. I will try again next week.

I have had 3 log in names. They are K for Knewjie, DNS and LostNco. [H] is my FWS who posts on MB.

I'm sorry to hear you've not been feeling well. Remember to take care of YOU! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

Keep on that HR department, you are entitled to coverage.

Hang in there!

K

If you find that it is too expensive to take on, does your state have some sort of coverage for those who cannot afford coverage.

MN has a plan called UCARE, it is for those who are not getting Medical Assistance, and who cannot afford ins. offered through their employer or their employere does not offer it. The down side is sometimes you have to wait. They only take so many (I think). I have never checked into it. My sister checked into it.
