Since I left in May, I have gotten regular child support checks. Suddenly I didn't get one, and haven't for the last 4 weeks. I have called child support recovery several times and they said it's coming. Today they told me they sent papers to the new employer Jan. 15, and were told he quit the job Jan. 5. He had been on unemployment, but is no longer on that either. (In Iowa, child support automatically comes out of wages.) I know he is working because he bought a new truck in Dec. and makes a $400/mo payment, as well as the mortgage. He lives in an isolated area in the country with a 1/4 mile lane, but a neighbor has seen a semi truck down there on weekends, so I suspect he is still working but has not told child support recovery.
I was really worried when he sent me a letter saying he would no longer see the kids. (Because he refuses to go to court ordered counseling and have supervised visits.)

I don't know where to go from here.....I only work part time so I can be home with the kids, but it's not enough to support us without the child support. My degree is in restaurant management, but in our small town I"ll never find child care for the weekends and evenings I"d have to work in that field.

Help! Any suggestions?

I think you need to contact an attorney immediately to get him to register for child support. I don't think there's anything you can do to make it right.

Hang in there.

Sigh.....I really can't afford to contact my attorney any more, I still owe her $600 and can't even make payments without the child support. And every time I have to go to court because of him I lose a days pay...can't afford that either esp. after losing 4 days this week with strep throat.

Guess I'm just depressed about the whole thing, seems hopeless.

Read your post. Can't offer much more than hugs right now, if that helps at all. I'd suggest at least giving your attorney a call, after all, she won't get any more money if you aren't getting what you are supposed to...hope you are feeling better. When it rains, it pours, doesn't it??

My ex did the same thing - however her in MN - you still keep getting you child support from the county - they go after the person who is suppose to be paying the support - take their taxes - and make them pay back any money that is owed. WI is the same on this - I have a son - who has a daughter over there - that he is paying for. Check into your State laws on this.

check with children services in your area. Fl makes you register with them when you apply for any type of state help like food stamps, medical. they can collect childsupport payments from the spouse, the cost was around $25. they have a 800 number, I dont have it anymore, but I believe its all over the country not just Fl.

In Iowa, an agency called Child Support Recovery collects the payments by garnishing wages. However, if they don't know who he's working for, they can't collect. I"m sure they'll catch up with him eventually, it's just that I got a $400 heat/electric bill and I need the money NOW, not in a few months.

I really had it made.....worked 8 to 1 M-F so I could be home with the kids, also a home business I work 1-3 and 8-10, and his child support and made plenty to live on. But without child support, I fall about $400 a month short. I don't know if I should look for different employment that would give me less time with the kids, plus the hassles of weekend/evening child care or what to do. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />
