Anyone in NJ?????

My lawyer sucked. I have q's and Im not sure if I call him to clarify, I cant pay any more$$$

I was awarded permanent alimony. I understand this is taxable, but does not end like spousal support (very long term marriage)

Can he however go to the court and have it reduced? I hope to have a better career when I am done with school. Can he do a credit check and find out my income?

This right now is more a privacy issue, than a monetary issue, but hopefully that will change in the future.

How about if I choose to move nearer my brother in Colorado..he will still be liable for alimony, but what kind of problems might I encounter trying to collect from another state.

I am also applying for a mortgage on my own, do I need to have my divorce lawyer present to make sure all issues from my divorce are enforced at the settlement table?

I cant believe all the crap I have to deal with because of his childish actions. Every day he lives the life of a 25 YO all over again, while I am the one left holding all the adult stuff UGGGGGGGGGH

If yours is so bad, perhaps you should consult with another one. I can't believe what attorneys can charge for, I see how much razzle dazzle it truly is now .... I surely should have been one, if I had known it was the most lucrative job!

I am getting permanent alimony as well. (One of the few things good about NJ family law.) I think that your ex can file a motion to have alimony reduced every 2 years. They don't do credit checks, but you do have to disclose all your bank statements, check stubs, etc etc etc just like you've had to during discovery.

If you have no kids, you probably can leave the state without a court order and technically the alimony garnishment should continue in theory. How well it actually plays out is the unknown. I'm sure an attorney could answer that (they might do the song and dance though and not really know).

Not sure about the refinancing of the mortgage... does your court order come into play on your refinancing of it?

The details of it all are really massive.... I can't tell you how many days I have had to spend 14 hours working on this case. If I were working, I would have missed so many days of work.

Good luck to you... I hope that you find an attorney that you like.
