My oldest, DD10 never says much about W and I getting back together. She has always been the type to try to outdo herself to do nice things for other people.

Back around mothersday, she said she wanted to save her allowance so she could take W and I out for dinner for Mothers/Fathers day.

She said to me again yesterday that she wanted to take the 2 of us out for dinner still for our Mothers/Fathers day gifts from her.

If W and I were still together, I wouldn't be surprised at her doing this at all. But since we are not together I wonder if she is trying to get the 2 of us out on a date.

I hear all the time that children will try to get their parents back together and I can't help but wonder if this is her intention.

I don't want to hurt her feelings by not letting her do this for us but I also don't want her to be let down if she thinks it will help get us back together and it doesn't work.

Has anyone had their children try to get them back together?

How do I know if that is what she is trying to do ?

WIWH,

No, Our kids didn't try to get us back together--

But, if your concerned about the reasons your daughter is doing this--talk to her--ASK HER what her motivations are--rather than speculate--

That will open up communication lines between you and your daughter in a way that will bless you BOTH in years to come---it will allow you to talk to her about what your wanting--and encourage her to ask her mom what she want's--and by being honest with her--your not trying to intentionally HURT her--even if she is hurt by your response
it will be healthy for her--in allowing her to learn to face the truth in life even if it hurts
to hear it--the truth does hurt sometimes--and it's better to learn this as a child when they have their parents there to comfort them--than it is when they are adult's--and their parent's aren't always around--

It might be her way of having at least ONE last family celebration together--one more family memory to carry her into adulthood--

Some people schedule "family dinners" at a restaurant, so the kids can be together with their family. Ask her if she'd like that.

I know my X wouldn't go for it. He can't even talk to me.

Thorned rose,
I don't know that I want to just come right out and ask her why she wants to do this. She already has a reason and I don't want to question her motivation.

I think I may just tell her that we may not beable to all go together and see if she would like to go idividually with us. I think this would bring something out if she had any hidden motivation.

Hey if she's got a plan that will work, I'm behind her 100 % <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="images/icons/grin.gif" />

The possibility of her trying to get us together just hit me today so I don't know what I realy want to do yet.

Newly, Scheduling family dinners isn't necessary. We have become a profesional part time family. There is no My time her time. it's more like Our time her time. And there is a lot of our time.
