I was kinda silent until I knew one way or the other...nail biting and sitting on tacks time.
Thank you for your prayers b/c the interview was a LONG one...went on from 9 am until about 1045 am and then in human resources office again until 1130 am...
Got there, very nice and good technology also...Nice nice supervisor and staff. Will get chance to learn Pet technology which is something I have wanted to get into for some time...Mac, the Dept. Director, is about my dad's age, and we talked along with exec from hospital about my role and how it could expand over the next few years (Mac might be retiring in a few years)...then they showed me around the department, saw all the equipment (nice) and met the staff (very nice and laid back). Met their chief nuke cardiologist and several other docs and got grilled by one "what's your specialty? Oh, hearts and brains...well we do lots of hearts but hopefully we can get into some brain stuff soon. Where did you go to specialty school at?" but very very nice and laid back. Much different from docs I had worked around before. Tension level there is at least imho, down about 50%.
After interview, thought this is the place. They said "well we have one more candidate and had a few before you interviewing...but there's one guy we for sure do not want." and they proceeded to tell me why another applicant was not to their liking...so I guess that was good.
Yesterday about 4 pm, I got the call.
I got more than I bargained for period!
So it's a huge praise. I will not be salaried as they don't do that there, but hourly I am up about (if you broke down my salary now into hourly rate) about 8-9k MORE than I am making now. In fact, they had to adjust their pay scale for my position to afford me...then the recruiter said "well we created a NEW pay scale for YOUR position which is a bit more than the other staff techs as we consider you more of a specialist than a technologist." So that was awesome! And they will NOT start me off at capped pay either! Lots of room for growth and they have me on track to within five years being able to make almost as much as some family practicioners make! Awesome! I will not have to depend on darth. No more worrying about what will happen after alimony runs out and the pittance for child support we get is all we can depend on besides my income. And they said "well this amount is just if you get NO promotions and just come to work, keep your head down, and just work and do nothing else." Plus there is extra pay for when I have to take call for emergency procedures. I will wear the proverbial beeper for about four days a month and they will flex it around when my son is visiting darth, and get time and a half and each time called in minimum of 2 hours of that pay...so that will add nicely to the income as well! Plus they're tacking on a nice sign on bonus.
Now I need to know...Do I sign with them for one year or a year and a half committment? They want to keep me so they're trying to at least make me commit to one year...afraid somebody else will hire me. And they have on site childcare (great for snow days or emergencies or if son's outta school and wants to come see mommy at work) and I can eat lunch w/son when I do that. Plus hours are good. And on top of that, benefits are great! Even covers some cosmetic and does cover orthodontics and braces!
And I like the fact I am not the solo act. I will be working with other professionals and not have everything hinge on me as before being only one at practice doing my job. And the docs don't need pats on the back like old practice...Mac (director) said "well with the cardiac studies you do, we have an assistant for you to help you out every day and also the docs here do work...you process your data and send the results over to their computers and if they want to tweak something, they do it...no more bothering you and making you cater to their every whim." Wow. Docs that know my specialty. That's a switch.
I was almost outta breath when I got off phone with the recruiter with the offer. She said "I think you can have a bright and stable future with us." I think so.
And its 15 min. away from son's school and they will be glad when told a little in advance, that is, to go to school breakfasts, sports events, etc..and can work around me. I can be close to son! And that is a huge blessing. Have had to travel at least 1 hour to get to son from old job at the old practice. Longer if there's traffic. In mornings, had to hire nanny to drive son to school b/c it's a private school and in opposite direction of my old job. Paid 400 a month for that. Now I can drive son to school and save the money but most importantly, have more time with my son in the mornings. And no more 1.5 hour morning commute either!!! That is HUGE in atlanta.
Got quick call yesterday from the xbf. He is not very happy about me being gone. I could hear it in his voice. I broke down and told him the good news. He says "oh no...you're moving aren't you?" I said no. That it is further north, but actually much closer to me now. He was relieved. He said before he had to go work on an emergency case in er "well with the bonus I am going to ask you to take me out to dinner ok?" He was very nice and I kinda think he misses me.
Last night I slept for the whole night for the first time in 2 weeks.
Son is gone now to visit darth. But I am ok. I can and will be able to provide for him and his future and my retirement one day. I will be able to live pretty well. Not rich, but good. Pay bills, have a house, have a car, and a few things. Most of all, I can take care of my son and have great benefits for him. Last night he said "I cant wait to see where you work at mommy". He was excited. He couldn't wait for a snow day or so he could have me come and have lunch with him there.
Oh and then got a call from my buddy who's the dir. of cardiac services for a large hospital in ATL. He asks me "well, now that you're going there, in a few months we will also want to ask your Director if they would like to be a clinical site for our students at Med. College of GA. (my buddy is the clinical instructor for the students there in my specialty)...I'd like to ask him if the staff at the facility would like that privilege as the students also will be a help and lighten the load plus we'd like to extend to you, pending Director's approval, the position of Clinical Instructor..." Wow. A job within a job. And I used to do this back home in TN btw. If the director bites, which I think he would as it would be prestigious for the department in a few months (after I prove myself there). Could be even a bit more money. I used to do the procedures and all the while be instructing the students...was very fun.. Now trust me, I am NOT going to bite off more than I can chew and I told my buddy that I am going to wait at least 6 mos. before even approaching Director with that or letting my friend call him for that. So it would most likely be the following year for clinical teaching. I told the xbf that and he was very excited as he also did instructing as well at the PA school too...
The facility even pays for my professional licensure fees each year (which I always had to pay out of pocket) and will pay for me to take any specialty exams so I can get advanced certifications...that is very cool. Again, less outta pocket money. So far I will pay less for insurance and less for no morning childcare, so I will be at least spending 600 less a month~that in itself is also like a bonus to me.
Praise God!
I am sooo happy. Now I am going to also get the time off I needed. Time to relax and smell the roses and be thankful to God and to give quality time to my son. I am going to use some of the sign on bonus to take him on a cool trip (but will keep it educational too so I can have him off of school 1 day).
Thank you friends! Thank you! This is the fastest turn around I have ever had!
God bless you for your love and kindness to me and my little boy!

You sound surprised! I knew you'd get it. You wanted it and prayed for it and you got it. It sounded like the perfect solution, so it had to be. Congratulations!

Glad to hear it. I, too, was confident you'd find something with ease.
Oh, yeah, and I do happen to like xBC's advice.... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="images/icons/tongue.gif" />
