You better have a can of tuna when you say those words...or a nice fresh sprig of catnip.
The medication is called "neurontin", manufactured by Pfizer. Bipolar Bear, my husband, takes 3200 mg of the drug per day, or eight 400 mg capsules. It took about a month for the meds to kick in and about two years for him to get the full benefit from them because of his drinking. Now that he is sober, there is an amazing difference in his behavior. The meds completely control all reckless behavior and now he thinks clearly and logically with no mood swings. For men there is a sexual side effect, so neurontin is usually prescribed with viagara. (wow. pretty amazing stuff. we call them magic beans)
Well, now that I've given out waaaaay too much information, may you find your peace of mind and harmony with something to help balance the brain chemistry. My husband says for the first time in his life he feels normal and absolutely loves how he feels, loves thinking logically and rarely gets mad and never has rages anymore. He would never be without the meds and gets kind of nervous if the supply gets low. I know it sounds like it is like an addictive "high" but it is not. He is just scared of what might happen if he doesn't take his meds and keeps balanced.
Good luck

Catnip Thanx for your response! I have tried Neurontin and maybe just had to low of a dose-Dr. prescribed it along with Depakote it didn't seem to help. My day to day life is alright and perhaps I don't exhibit strong enough tendencies to require a more aggressive treatment, but when life hands me a trigger as it did 2 years ago--watch out! BTW, I am familiar with the side effects of Neurontin and I don't think you gave out to much info. Let me get this straight if I may, Neurontion allows a man to last a really LONG time and the Viagra... Is there a Problem here?! Thanx for your response. God Bless.

Serenity...
It seems the neurontin took about a year or more to really do its stuff. But, I think the reason it seemed to take so long was the remorse/regret factor was so profound and so debilitating in my husband that the self-destructive mechanism within pretty much over-powered any kind of drug...even neurontin. Now that he is a bit easier on himself, the drug seems to be working better. At least, we can BOTH tell a difference.
Good luck...let me know what was the catalyst for your meltdown.
