what the hell is the shelf life of Ativan???<P>I have some from 1995, and I know that it probably only reduces in potency through the years...<P>and the pharmacist here will only tell me to see my doctor...but a friend said that it would still be safe<P>conflicting opinions, I don't need....<P>Ativan, valium, prozac, those, I could use...<P><BR>Dylan....

shelf life of most perscription drugs is a standard 3 years, unless it is a liquid or compound. some drugs do tend to lose some potency after a certain period of time and exposure.. but just follow normal script instructions per your physician and you should be ok. <BR>

I'm not a pharmacist, but I play one on TV...<P>Not really. But W IS one, and I've picked up a few things. One is that most medicines chemically change over time. Usually it's just a loss of potency, but sometimes it's more involved. Different effects, different interactions with other medications, etc.<P>IMHO, you should probably give those 1995 drugs a decent burial in the closest toilet!<P>PS: W says, not only does the medicine change chemically, but the brain chemistry, which the anti-dep was meant to address, could also change greatly in 5 years!<P>It's just not safe.<p>[This message has been edited by Doug (edited February 17, 2000).]
